“So This Is Toronto!”

I always enjoy praising hotels and hostels in my reviews for location. This one has it on top of being a top notch quality hotel. Everything in downtown Toronto is within walking distance: the Rogers Centre, the CN Tower, the Hockey Hall of Fame, the Shoe Museum, Chinatown, etc. I spent three days in Toronto and our group never had to pay for transportation. On top of this hotel's location, the quality is just magnificent. It is very clean and has a fantastic pool outside of which is a sun deck which offers a very nice view of the immediate downtown area. The staff here were among the best a hotel could hope for. They provided maps, tips on attractions, and well detailed directions on top of being smiling, friendly, and courteous. This hotel would probably rank among the highest that I have stayed at. It is middle of the road in that it is not loaded with plush armchairs and crystal chandeliers but it is very attractive and a great place to stay at a reasonable price next time you're in Toronto.

“Not much better than the first time around..”

A group of girls and myself came here for a "girls night out". This was the second time we came here because my friend got the room on hotwire for a great deal.

One complaint that I had last time I came here was the heat in the rooms. It was WAY TOO HOT! The heat kept on going up and up no matter what I tried to do. What helped was that there were windows that did open which cooled the room down. What I dont understand is why does the heat continue to go up when the fan is off? I went to bed and the room was 75. I woke up and it was 89.

Security is another issue here.. when we came back to the hotel at 3am, there was a big group of guys (about 6 of them) doing some sort of "business" deal on the front steps! Being 4 small, vulnerable girls, we were a bit nervous walking into the hotel. When I mentioned to security that the men outside were conducting some sort of shady business, he just laughed and brushed it off and said I was overreacting. As a customer to your hotel, my safety should never be at risk, or laughed at. Your own customers are afraid of coming into the hotel because you have hoodlums in front of the doors selling drugs and then we get laughed at? Not appreciated at all.

Overall our stay was good for the deal that we got, however if it was up to me, I would not choose this hotel had I known which one it was. Beds were comfy but the heat was unbearable. Cant the hotel do something so that we can fix exactly what temperature our room should be rather than just having it go up and up and up? Waking up to a room at 89 is just ungodly. And or those who dont know, 89F is 31C.. really now?

Dear CityGirl0827,
Thank you for bringing to my attention the issues you experienced.
Rest assured that we do take the security of our guests very seriously here. I am shocked to hear how the security guard reacted to your concerns. Being located in the heart of downtown, we are always very aware of the safety of our guests and staff. We have a hotel wide Security Awareness Program where all staff members play a part in ensuring the security of the building. I have raised your experience with our Director of Security so that he can address, and correct, this situation immediately.
I am also sorry that the heat in your room made your sleep so uncomfortable. It seems that there must have been an issue with the HVAC unit in your room, as there is no reason for the heat to continue to rise when the unit has been switched off. Our HVAC system is set to “Heat” for the winter months, but when the in-room unit is turned off, there should be no more heat coming into your room. I apologize that this was not working properly in your room. Our engineering team is always happy to assist in matters like this.
Thank you for sharing your comments and please feel free to contact me if you would like to further discuss your stay.

Kind Regards,
Alain

“Pleasant weekend getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Normally when we go to Toronto we stay with family, but since we found a good deal we decided to play tourist. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality at this Holiday Inn. The service was great - from the front desk (warm welcome at check in) to Tegan in the bar (extremely friendly and efficient,) to the serving staff at breakfast. The location is excellent at Carlton & Yonge, at the College subway stop and next door to Maple Leaf Gdns with the huge Loblaws grocery store and LCBO. Our rooms were on the top floor facing south and a fantastic view of the city. While the rooms were a trifle on the small side, it was really not a problem. We had a king bed, a bar fridge that was not filled with overpriced drinks and treats so we could fill it ourselves. \outside or two rooms there was a sitting area that was great for sitting at to have a drink. This could be a problem if there are noisy people using the area. The breakfast buffet was included in our room price and it was good

Room Tip: south facing on a higher floor have good views

“Pleasantly surprised”

Booked 1 night Jan 2012 through Hotwire for $75/nt not including taxes or fees. Only stayed 12 hours as I had to leave early the next morning. Staff were friendly and prompt. Location is great: 1 minute from College stn. subway, tim hortons, starbucks. Close to shopping. 4 blocks from the Delta Chelsea, where I caught the Airport Express the following morning. Wifi was free, which is always welcome.

Rooms were spacious, clean and well-appointed. Mine had a writing desk, flat screen, couple of comfy chairs, large closet and Bath and Body Works toiletries. Desk lamps had outlets in the base so you could easily plug in laptop/cell phone charger. The beds were comfy and the wing I was in was quiet so I had a good night's sleep.

Would definitely stay here again!

“Not a bad basic hotel except for one flaw.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

The location is fantastic. It is very centrally located in the middle of downtown Toronto. Also the price was right too. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. What you would expect from a Holiday Inn really. The rooms are very modern if a little small.

So the one flaw (and for me this is a deal breaker) is that Housekeeping woke us up at 8:00 am on a Saturday!!! We had not asked for a wake up call, and when we asked what time it was (as we were dead asleep) the housekeeper said it was 11 and we had to check out. I was definitely not happy about that. Also someone had left a tampon dangling on the picture frame above the bed (it was so weird we took a picture of it.) Housekeeping should have definitely caught that one. Otherwise the room was very clean, but come on.

Outside of the housekeeping issues, a great hotel but a couple of glaring issues.

Dear CCheltenham,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your valuable comments. I am very sorry to read about that most unpleasant of discoveries on the picture frame. That is very embarrassing for us and, just as you said; our Housekeeping team should definitely have caught that one.
We have already had a meeting about this and taken the necessary steps to ensure that something like this does not go missed again. I am also sorry to hear that you were woken up by the attendant on the floor at 8am on a Saturday morning. We have reminded all staff to be extra quiet on the floors on the weekends as a majority of our weekend guests are staying with us so that they can relax and enjoy a nice peaceful morning away from home.
I am happy to read that you enjoyed our great location and that the staff were friendly and helpful.
We will take all the necessary steps to ensure that the issues you experienced are addressed and do not happen again. This way, if you are with us again in the future, you will have a wonderful stay from start to finish!!

Thank you again for sharing your comments.

Kindest regards,

Alain Monnard
