I stayed here of a month (jul-aug 2011) yes the rooms and kitchen area was basic but for just over $500 for the month i'm not complaining. rooms are cleaned daily and new linen is always available when requested. the bathroom and kitchen were also cleaned daily. like i said, i stayed here for a month and i didn't see a single mouse or bedbug. the only thing that bothered me was when cleaning they'd leave the garbage chute open and it smelled bad for a about an hour, but i was usually up and out by this time.
there's a tv room, laundry room and a wifi room as well as rooftop gardens.
this is also in a fantastic location you can walk just about everywhere, or if you're lazy there's a subway station round the corner or a 10 mins walk for the streetcars and 15mins for the dundas st bus station. there's also a few supermarkets about too a Metro, Raba's and 15mins east a No Frills as well as a 24hr convenience store just down stairs with a free cash machine too :P

all in all, i would definitely stay again!

You get a very inexpensive sleep in an un-air conditioned room with a share bath and kitchenette. An adequate breakfast is included in the price of the room. If you're lucky, you will have one of the upper floors for a spectacular view of the city. Facilities include a coin laundry and wireless Internet access in the computer lounge and café. You also get a warm and fuzzy because you are helping to support low-cost housing for students who live there during the academic year. Every time we go to Toronto, we stay at the Neill-Wycik, save a bundle, and meet new people. Love it!

Keep in mind. The Neill-Wycik is not an actual hotel ie Marriott, Days Inn or Motel 6. This is a college dorm with some private rooms for solo travelers.

No matter what, you will be sharing a bathroom which I found to be clean. There's a kitchen/lounge on each floor that I also found to be clean. The room had only a twin bed with linen and a desk. There was a nook to hang your clothes and some shelves to put things on. No tv or radio. Remember, this is a college dorm. I didn't come here to stay in my room 24/7. This place was a roof over my head when I was done with the day or night.

One issue i had was that there's no air conditioning. Luckily, the window did open and it was not too hot when I was in the room. Another issue but not a major one was no wi-fi in the rooms. However, you could go to the area where they serve the continental breakfast (which by the way is included during your stay and is ok) or you can go to the 22nd floor in the lounge 24 hours a day. With regards to their breakfast, if continental is not your style, you are walking distance to many places ie. Subway, McDonalds, diners, etc. My only pet peeve was the cleaning people did not come to give me fresh towels. It wasn't a big deal for me to get them myself from the lobby but if you're providing the cleaning service, drop off some clean towels. Lastly, check-out is at 10 am. You can stay up to noon but they will charge you for that. It's really not that much. However, if you stay beyoned noon, you will be charged for one night's stay. I opted for late check out and my total cost was still very cheap.

The hotel service is only available between May and August. I would definitely take advantage of this hotel. I plan on staying again next year.

I stayed only one night (luckily), but I will never return. There are no rooms with private bathroom and this is not specified at the hotel site when you booking! The common bathrooms are really small, the room itself is very small with no closet, no phone working and they give you a small single towel, not even two (maybe no one showers!).
The night I stayed there was a fire alarm, the fire buzzer started to whistle and we didn't know why! Only after 5 or 10 minutes, someone asked to evacuate the building! Fortunately, nothing happened!
The unique positive point was the breakfast, with juice, fruits, jelly, cheese, milk and coffee (even if an awful water for a brasilian!).
