“ONLY BOOKED BECAUSE ITS WAS NEW YEARS AND EVERYTHING WAS BOOKED”

I only got a room here becuause I waited to long to book fot New Years Eve....Very sketchy area. When left hotel around 8pm to go to diner there was about 15 cops looking for guy with gun...and last found out the 1st murder of 2011 was minutes away...also a good freind was parked down the street and her car windows were smashed and property stolen.

You will need a $200 deposit...they don't tell you this at anytime pre or post booking.

As others as said...this is a low income appatment building and they try and rent the rooms which aren't rented out.

I WILL NEVER STAY AGAIN....WHEN THEY ASK FOR A DEPOSIT FOR A ALARM CLOCK OR HAIR DRYIER YOU KNOW ITS NOT A GOOD/SAFE PLACE.....FOR LESS $ YOU CAN STAY @ ISABELLA WHICH IS TEN TIMES BETTER

Thank you for your input. We're sorry your stay was less than satisfactory but our staff and management team are aware of your concerns and we are always looking for ways to improve. The Grange Hotel is not an apartment building, it is a hotel with over seventy private rooms. The vast majority of our guests stay on a short-term basis, though we do offer discounted weekly and monthly rates for guests who need lodging for longer periods of time. We do require a deposit if a guest decides to pay with cash or debit, just like most other hotels. As for the area, being so close to the nightclubs and restaurants of the Entertainment District has advantages and disadvantages on New Year's Eve. With New Year's obviously being the exception, the neighborhood around The Grange Hotel is surprisingly quiet at night, even though we are located in the heart of downtown Toronto.

“Minimal (not in a Euro design way), great location, this is bargin basement”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2011

Stayed in June 2010 for 5 nights.Would have changed locations but the city was booked up - we even were looking for other paces where we would have paid more than double. Anyhow: the bathroom and kitchenette area seemed to be clean. The carpet looked not so clean - but vacuumed, at least. The beds felt like they had spent the better part of their life at a summer camp. Old window air conditioners were noisy. That all said, it is super inexpensive, in a decently safe part of town - which is a really interesting part of the city (Queen Street). Fridge worked fine and so did the internet. Would recommend only for those willing to have dorm room experience.

The Grange Hotel does have a convenient location for travelers seeking affordable accommodations in downtown Toronto. We're just a short walk from Queen Street West, Kensington Market, and Chinatown. We appreciate your comments and are trying to address your concerns by installing new beds and air conditioning units. If you stay with us again, please bring any concerns you have to the attention of the manager or front desk staff and we will do our best to make your stay more comfortable!

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate and value input from hardworking folks such as yourself. We are installing new appliances in the hope that they will be less disturbing to guests.

“Lower prices is its main positive but rooms, sheets, and the surrounding area are quite dirty”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2010

The prices this place charges are really low (compared to some of the other places in downtown Toronto) but the rooms are not clean. The bathrooms are nice but just so so. The best thing about it is the location - at Augusta Ave and Grange Ave - a few minutes walk from Queen St W on the south and Chinatown on the east. So its easy to get to most of the places in downtown. But the hotel itself is an apartment building and the owner or manager rents out a few units as rooms for travelers to stay. There is what looks like a housing project next to this hotel. They provide free internet (but no wifi; you use an ethernet cable) in the rooms. There is a surcharge if you pay using Amex. So, use visa or mc to avoid that. Parking is about 3.50 bucks a night. Weekend rates tend to be higher than the weekday rates.

Thank you for the review. The Grange Hotel is not an apartment building, we rent our 70+ rooms as hotel rooms only. The vast majority of our guests are here for short-term stays, but of course we have clients who appreciate our reduced weekly and monthly rates. To improve customer service we now do offer both wireless and Ethernet access to our free high-speed Internet connection. We appreciate the comments and are constantly working to improve our standards. If you decide to stay here again (and we hope you do) please feel free to take up any concerns you have with the front desk staff or management and we will do our best to make your stay a more pleasant one.
