So I am a dedicated Marriott customer. So in my head, I can't help but compare the two. The price here was fantastic. 129 through their website, beat anything in the city that wasn't on priceline or blind bid, and I don't trust either of those.
My impression started high, when I pulled up to drop off the bags in order to go search for cheaper parking. I told the valet that we didn't want to pay $40, and he told us self parking was $18. I just liked that it was an option, he didn't treat us any different because we didn't want to be gouged for parking. After we parked, 2 valets who were parking other cars stopped and asked if we needed help with our bags, that they would send someone down. We were okay, but I appreciated the caring, and I don't care if they were doing it for tips. Check in was easy enough, front desk people are always fairly personality free. I wish they would match their attitudes to the customers. Yes, business people expect you to be serious, but when we're clearly there for fun, and are laughing and smiling, a smile makes me like you more. That being said, they were smart, we could only book 2 doubles *more on that later* and he took one look at the 6'5" guest and asked if he would prefer a king.
The rooms are old, and starting to show their wear. The bathtubs were cracked and rusted, I didn't feel the urge to run out for bubble bath. The doubles were not doubles. I doubt 2 people could sleep comfortably. I am under 5'5" and could lay in the middle and grab both sides. But they were comfortable. I enjoyed the pillows a lot, but others in the group thought they were far too flat. General cleanliness was lacking in the hotel. Again, this is compared to Marriott. The only time I saw cleaning staff was during room turnover. There was a coffee cup on the floor by the elevator from at least 2pm until the next day. The headboards are made out of padded material, and this in general is a bad idea, they just harbour stuff I don't want next to my head. The rooms are a good large size.
The pool area was amazing. After a picture was taken and posted one of my friends asked when I went to the Luxor. It had a resort feel. The food was ridiculously priced, but the drinks at $9 I felt was reasonable. I don't know what the pool would be like on a bad weather day or in the winter, but on a nice day, I could have stayed there all day.
The scenic elevator was great, but I wish you could call it separately, if you wanted to take it, sometimes you would have to call it 4 or 5 times. If you're looking for a quiet hotel, this one seemed pretty loud on a Saturday night. I'm fairly easy going, so I didn't let it get to me. I did see a young guest being removed, so there must be a noise limit that they'll take, so that's good.
I called for more shampoo and towels, and it took quite a long time to arrive.
Overall, for the price, I'd stay here again. But if the prices were comparable, I'd still go Marriott.
Also, since it looks like the manager reads these-please include wifi access. It would cost you nothing and improve value for money immensely.
Rooms that end in 05 have a perfect view of the tower, framed between 2 buildings. Nice for the nig...

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us! We will certainly share your comments with our team, particularly in the areas that you felt were not at our usual high level of service or standard. Although the Hilton brand does not include WiFi access in all rates as a standard ammenity, many packages are available which will include this service along with many other "value ads" which I would recommend for anyone wishing to utilize WiFi access and for whom the complimentary lobby computer stations are not convenient. Should your future travel plans include Toronto, we do hope that you will provide us another opportuntiy to be of service!
