“Once elegant rooftop bar”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

people found this review helpful

For many years the bar at the top of Toronto's Park Hyatt (formerly the Park Plaza) was a mecca for the city's cultural community. Elegant and welcoming, it was a good place to enjoy the view and good conversation while quaffing a well chosen wine. The view is still there, as is a good wine list, but since the installation and operation of an obtrusive sound system, evidently on the principle that bars must have loud music, the bar has become considerably less attractive, at any rate if conversation is one of your objects.

“A New Annual Tradition”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

My daughter and I have made a tradition of heading to Toronto's "Miracle Mile" for the Boxing Day sales on December 26th. This year we decided to get a room at the Park Hyatt Toronto for two nights as it was close to our shopping destinations and they offered excellent room deals. Having enjoyed both nights immensely, we now know that we must include a stay at this hotel be included in our annual tradition. My sister and her three daughters joined us for one night and they too want to make this an annual event. The rooms were large, and extremely comfortable. The staff could not have been more pleasant, from the doormen, to front desk personnel, to the housekeeping coming to perform nightly turn-down service. My ONLY complaint with the hotel was the lack of coffee machines/kettles in the rooms. This is the only hotel I have experienced in years that does not have this available. While I understand that the hotel offers 24 hour service, you do necessarily want to have to answer your door and/or wait for a cup of tea. This will necessitate my bringing my own immerser/travel kettle with me. I do hope they change their policy on this issue before my next stay.

Room Tip: We upgraded to a luxury room. It was quite a bit larger than the standard room, which in it itself w...

“First class, all the way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We think this is a great hotel because of its location and because the staff were very friendly and courteous. Our room had a very luxurious feel to it (maybe the bathrobes that were furnished lent to that feeling). The bed was very comfortable, the TV of an exceptional size, and the window could be opened (a must for my wife who likes to feel air moving around her when she is sleeping). We ate lunch at the Hotel's restaurant and found the food to be very good (the service could have been a tad faster) Going online saved us an appreciable amount of money but to do so one must accept that the reservation cannot be canceled.

Room Tip: Booking on line may result in an appreciable saving.

“Decent, but outdated and not up to par of other Park Hyatt properties”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

Brought my family and stayed @ this property from 12/1-12/5...you can definitely see the wear/tear on the rooms and public areas. The last time I stayed here was in September 2002, and at that time, the property was in much better condition.

The furniture, fixtures, and carpeting in my room, Luxury Suite #928-929 with a connecting room to 927, were all pretty worn. You can tell that everything was a bit dated and about 10-15 years old. They did "upgrade" to flat screen TV's and better toiletries since my last visit back in 2002.

Also, one of the double beds in #927 was concaved in, due to too much wear.

However, the service was excellent, and the food in the hotel restaurant (Annona) was pretty good. I also heard the hotel spa is one of the best in Toronto, but I didn't get a chance to try it.

The hotel definitely should be updated to compete with the newer Park Hyatts around the world....I stayed @ the Park Hyatt in Seoul back in April and that was the epitome of style and modern luxury. If that property was a 9, this Toronto Park Hyatt would be a 4-5, tops. This property more resembles a regular Hyatt, and a dated one at that.

The location was excellent, though, in prime Yorkville area.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher room.
