“A big lie through pictures”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

We had stayed for 11 days before we could find an apartment after arrival in Toronto. It was far down from what we expected from a 3-star average hotel. A malodorous, dirty building with no monitoring on arrivals late night (very unsafe), a broken old elevator (surprisingly they posted proudly a notice on the wall that it was one of the oldest in city still working; it, however, needs emergency maintenance), unimpressive and bad-tempered staff, bad housekeeping service (one time cleaning a week!!), broken and good-for-nothing computers on the internet room (we used our laptop), very noisy even at 4 or 5 AM, filthy floor, wornout linens and bed stuff, broken phone (with an expensive extra charge for your calls), shutying off water, useless heater in December, etc (are you waiting for the rest? not enough?); all for an uacceptable expensive rate caomparable with a better 4-star hotel in downtown. We regreted for our selection.

“You get what you pay for”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

While it's not five star, if you want the ability to cook your own meals, have access to some remarkable Toronto trail systems and access to great dining and shopping plus nearby subway...stay here. Yes, there are some provisos. Make sure your room is far from the antiquated elevator, preferably with no bedroom facing Yonge St. and on the upper floors (first floor rooms rumble with the subway below)! Sure, this is not fancy (no robes or blow dryers) and the grand 'ol dame is showing her age...but hey folks...it's cheap AND accessible. I've stayed four times in twenty years, I'll stay again!

“Horrible - Not as described on their web site”

We chose the Glen Grove based on info and pictures on their web site. We stayed for one night in August. I was travelling with wife, sister in law and two neices. We had booked a two bedroom with a hide a bed. The first room we were shown was filthy, worn out and no hide a bed. After visiting front desk, where the clerk said it wasn't her fault, we were shown two more rooms which were not much better. As we had a function to attend shortly we took the third room shown. If time had allowed we would have went somewhere else. I have stayed in all kinds of accommodation and I am easy to please but this place is best described as shabby. It was dirty, peeling paint all over, rust lined fridge, kitchenette doors falling off, mold around windows, worn out stained furniture, worn out bed linens with holes in them, bathroom door that had no closure, rust lined sink and tub, electrical wall outlet wired to a plug (didn't look safe), stains on walls and carpets. There were also bugs in the hide a bed and I ended up sleeping on the floor. I have attached some real photos. Upon check out we asked to see the manager who wasn't around. We left contact info for a call back. We have received none and it is now October. Don't be fooled by pics on their website, the rooms we were shown look nothing like them.

“NOT what it describes or what we expected....BIG LET DOWN AND NOT CLEAN”

This appt block has a wonderful old elevator....and thats about it

Lady who checked us in very deffensive when I returned from the room they gave us which was "tacky: and NOT CLEAN we have 5 people and booked a 2 bed suite.....we were given a choice of two other rooms......I was bitterly dissapointed and embarrased as I booked this for family from Ireland and the UK.. the bathrooms looked like public toilets,,,,,,,,,,I did not wash in there AT ALL, rust - dirty marks and it was old and tired. The bedrooms were "OK" basic as was the sitting room the kitchen is OLD fridge was disgusting.
Positive......the cleaner was very sympathic and tried to help as much as she could. As we were only there for an afternoon and overnight we did not have time to find another property as we were booked for a show and the CN tower.
I would find it very hard to reccommend - I have stayed in B&B's and motels so I am not being picky - needs SERIOUS RENO if they did the bathrooms it would make a big difference..........I will NOT return, my husband and family were very dissapointed

“Great neighbourhood, price is higher than quality”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

Pros:
1. Good neighbourhood (Lawrence Park area with Alexander Muir Memorial Gardens nearby and 10 minutes walk to Lawrence Station)
2. Friendly and helpful management and staff (reception, housekeeping).
3. Toronto Star & National Post complimentary newspapers.
4. High-speed internet (about 8Mbps download speed)

Cons
1. Overpriced. Price doesn't match the quality. About $100/night if you stay for one month or more in 1 bedroom suite.
2. Outdated consumer equipment (bulky and heavy CRT TV, decade or two old refrigerator Admiral, no-name Magnasonic Microwave oven, bathtub full of scratches).
3. Local phone calls are $0,6 per call and toll-free numbers are $1.0 per call
4. If your windows look to Yonge street, you listen to the traffic noise. If the windows look opposite, you enjoy lawn mover noise during the day.

Conclusion: market situation in Toronto allows owners to make money without renovating the property.
