“Great Staff; Good Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We regularly travel to Sudbury to visit our aging parents and have found the Fairfield Inn to be the best value hotel in town – clean, non-smoking, with more than adequate breakfast choices – all for a lower nightly rate than similar hotels in the area. What really sets this hotel apart is its staff. Our recent visit was very stressful as we coped with daily visits to the hospital and then with arrangements for a memorial service. The helpful and friendly staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable.

“Good location - just couple of items though”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

We've stayed at this hotel many times as it's close to shopping (big box stores and the mall) . You get free internet, but mine didn't work for the two nights we stayed. I mentioned it after the first night, but the male front desk clerk indicated "his" was working and that was it .
Breakfast was so-so this time. There were many people for Breakfast at 7:30 but the food wasn't being replenished to accommodate.
Asked for an umbrella as it was raining and we wanted to walk to the Keg for supper, but found out the umbrella was broken - think it's time to get a new one.
The 2 queen size beds are roomy and the room was very clean .
Their TV's could be updated though- still have the very large, older style ones. Room cost was $ 139.00 /night.

Room Tip: The hotel could use a better entrance or signage as you easily miss the entrance off Barrydown

“Good overall, just a few quibbles”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

Stayed one night. Room was fine, hotel seemed fairly quiet so no noise issues that other reviewers mentioned. Just one tiny thing I don't like - paper/plastic cups instead of glass. They come in a plastic bag and then you throw both glass and bag out. Too many hotels do that, it seems both not environmentally friendly and not classy, And why is the recycling bin always in the bathroom? Stuff I recycle is mostly paper, which typically is in the bedroom not the bathroom.

The real quibble though is with the cheap plastic spoons at breakfast - I cut my lip twice on it. Do the staff at these places ever try the things they foist on the customers? I suspect not. Get some decent cutery!!!!

If those issues were fixed, I'd say it's better than average value for money.

Room Tip: The back faces the black back side of some big box retail thing - don't come for the view

“Nice place to stay but not as nice as before”

We had stayed at this hotel a few years ago when it was very new. At that time, we were excited about it. This time we were pleased but the rose-coloured glasses were off.

At the front desk we were greeted by a lovely young woman who was so friendly and personable. She was everything a hotel reception staff person should be! We were able to get into our room at an early afternoon hour which was great. The room was 'large' according to the map in the directory. This was probably because of there being two queen size beds. Everything was spotless. We did notice that no glasses were in the room~only styrofoam cups which was a turnoff. A fridge and microwave were good features. We did not use the coffee maker. The beds turned out to be extremely comfortable and the tv was a large one. The bathroom was a decent size with plenty of towels.

I used the small pool for jogging but my husband was extremely disappointed that the hot tub was only lukewarm. There are many towels available in this pristine, clean pool area.

Breakfast was good. The oatmeal, however, had turned to paste by the time we arrived. There was a variety of breads, cereals, etc. for any taste. Coffee was readily available. A large t.v. with many tables and comfy sofa chairs made for a good eating area.

Two computers are available in the lobby free of charge which is certainly a 'plus'.

In closing, I must add that every employee with whom we had contact was more than congenial. This is astounding for any hotel these days!

“Holds MArriott Standards Well, Breakfast Disappointing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Let me start by explain that I am a raving fan of the Marriott brand. I have stayed in countless properties for both pleasure and business and find their levels of standards to be very high and consistent - which can't be extremely easy. The Fairfield in Sudbury met my expectation - clean, fresh room, well-located, secure and extremely helpful and friendly staff. Cudos to the team! However, the breakfast served in the morning was the most disappointing I have experienced in the Marriott chain. There was very little selection and options. I had an early morning meeting and attended the breakfast area at 6:45 - not sure if that had anything to do with. Beyond that - the Fairfield in Sudbury is a recommended stay!

Room Tip: During the winter months a number of hockey teams stay there for tournaments. A higher floor away f...
