We stayed for 2 nights in a very large queen bedded room with a ensuite private bath and its own entrance and a private deck for $80 Canadian/night, (one night is $90). The setting is absolutely peaceful with a pond and trails. As we drove down the quiet country lane to the farm, we saw a wild turkey. The farmhouse is shaded by century old trees, and there's a swing.
Roger and Elaine Cook are wonderful hosts. His family has owned the 200 acre farm for more than a century, but he has given up dairy farming and focuses on woodworking and woodlot management. At our request, we were given a tour of his fabulous woodworking shop and an antique sawmill that was originally driven by steam.
The country breakfast was overwheming with an apple casserole, eggs, and sausages. Elaine serves only organic milk and asks about food preferences.
There are two moderate size rooms upstairs, one queen bedded, one with twins that share a bath and rent for $60 a night. They'd be great for a family, and the kids would enjoy the cabin down by the duck pond.
We had no trouble getting back and forth to Stratford for the plays and sightseeing and enjoyed the brief rides through the beautiful farms. The flowers are amazing.
