“A welcoming and calming retreat!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2010

My partner and I signed up for a short one night silent retreat/meditation. We stayed in room 3 - with a separate entrance and a den. It was really nice. Karen is very friendly and we had great discussions in our consultations. The guided meditation was very relaxing. The silent retreat was an interesting experience (we got a taste of it, would like to do a longer one next time). The B&B is located less than 5 minutes (walking) from the Festival Theatre - great location! The driveway is a little annoying to get out of but it's not too busy on Ontario Street, generally. There is some street noise in room 3 but not excessive. We also took advantage of the promotion $99 for silent retreat/meditation. Breakfast was very good! We would definitely come back here again!

“Perfect for Theater Goers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

Four of us took the 2 rooms in the main building and it was perfect. The rooms were comfortable, the food was excellent and the hosts were terrific. Karen was helpful and friendly without being in our face every moment. We really appreciated her guidance for restaurants.

The B & B was terrific, but best of all was its location. Literally it is 2 blocks from the Festival Theater and 3 blocks from the costume warehouse. A nice 15 minute walk gets you to the other 3 theaters. Only 5 blocks away is the heart of the shopping district.

We did use a car sometimes and parking was always easy in Stratford, but being able to walk made it that much more pleasant.

Only 2 "negatives:" internet was spotty in room 2. I needed to sit by the door to get full reception, but it was a minor inconvenience considering all else. The second negative was that we were there 6 days and had 3 different types of breakfasts. One type was served 3 times. Trust me, they were all wonderful, but I do wish they would add one more bit of variety to their breakfast options. Quiche would be a good choice one day. But again, these are quibbles, because the food was terrific and the internet was free. Also free were phone calls to the US and Canada.

“Good Option in Stratford - but a couple of things to note.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2008

I stayed at the Backstage with 4 friends for a two night girls getaway weekend. We booked all three rooms. It is well suited to this sort of trip as each room had two beds - either a queen and a single or two singles. One room also had a futon in an adjoining sitting area. Each room had a fridge, microwave, coffe maker, kettle and coffee/tea/sugar/milk which was very convenient as well as bottled water. The ensuite baths were well sized and had plenty of fresh towels each day as well as bathrobes, soap, and shampoo.
Each room also had an electric fireplace which kept the room toasty warm.
Breakfast was a hearty three course meal. The B&B is perfectly located a 5 minute walk to the Festival Theatre and 8 minute walk to downtown. Service and Hospitality was good.

Two things I will note; 1) one of the rooms is not accessible from the inside of the house - you have to go outside, around to the front, and inside a different door. This is great for a family wanting their own private area but was less than ideal for a larger group. Also, the breakfast was the same both days and while it was good, a change would have been nice.

  • Liked — Two beds in each room.
  • Disliked — Having to access third room from outside.
