“Bit Better Than Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Stayed here over New Years. Hotel is easy to find exit Ontario St off QEW. The Hotel has a coffee shop in the lobby and there is a Boston Pizza restaurant next door. This appears to have been a Quality Inn a couple years ago according to Google Earth. I thought the staff was pretty helpful, the counter person found me a room for an early check in when I arrived. Pool and Hot tub are nice and the workout room has dumbells and treadmills. Beds were comfortable, bathrooms were clean and modern. There is an ongoing feeling of renovations going on- hallway and elevator carpets always seem to have construction dust on them. This hotel seems to be well positioned to visit the winery locations to the West in Lincoln and Jordan, I went back and forth quite a bit and they are no more than 20min drive thru the country. If coming from TO best to rent a car and drive here takes about an hour on the QEW Hwy.

“HOPE THIS WAS AN ISOLATED PROBLEM, BUT…..”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

This is one of the few times that I have written a negative review about any hotel, and the dust issue I encountered is not mentioned in the other reviews, so hopefully it was an isolated problem. Indeed, someone else recently commented the opposite, having found their room to be clean.

My wife and I had stayed here several times in the past when it carried the Quality brand name, often splurging on the king suite with the jetted tub. It was our hotel of choice when visiting family in St. Catharines, and the room had always been clean and in good shape.

This time I was in town by myself for just one night, so I opted for a lower-priced room.

The room badly needed a proper vacuuming, a problem that I did not notice until after I was undressed and about to climb into bed, and thus a bit late to call in housekeeping.

There was a fair bit of dust where the carpet met the wall, behind chairs and behind the luggage supports. Housekeeping needs to get at this with a crevice tool. There were several little specks of white lint on the carpet, suggesting that the vacuum had not picked a previous guest’s sock lint. (Could not have been from my dark brown socks.)

The cover of the heat and air conditioning unit below the window was badly beaten up, with paint chipped off, but this is supposed to be replaced at some point in the new year.

There was a thermostat on the wall, but there was no power to it, so I opened up the lid to the controls of window heat/ac unit to try to adjust the room temperature, and found a fair bit of debris and dirt among the buttons and dials.

On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable, the restaurant more than decent, and the staff were very friendly.

“clean, nice but bad management”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

the rooms are nice, clean and have been remodelled recently, but sadly the management is out to lunch. They had a large group of very young people staying over as they had some big dinner celebration at the hotel that night. As one might expect, they were loud and boozing alot and up quite late partying. This is not a shock and can be expected in any hotel from time to time. But they spread the partiers around the hotel, mixed amongst other guests. We had children with us. When I approached the staff about it, I was met with a falsely confident statement that "we're all over it, and if it gets out of hand they will be kicked out". I had to do alot of convincing to secure another quieter room in an area of the hotel where there were not supposed to be any of the party kids. Of course, there were still partiers around us, up late making noise, but it was better then the previous room.
The real sad part is that in the morning, the front desk staff person said that a different manager came on for the night shift and did not take care of the problem partiers, and there were other very unhappy guests who were interrupted all night. Clearly someone is asleep at the wheel in this hote....in order to sap a few bucks out of some kids for some rooms, they are prepared to violate the first thing that any reasonable hotel guest is looking for: a good night's sleep.

Thank you for reviewing our property and letting us know about your recent experience. Being a popular destination for annual Christmas Parties with our 23,000 square meet of meeting and banquet space it is often difficult to have our security in two places at once. Once made aware of any situation our team is trained to act quickly to any guest issue. it is unfortunate that our staff was non responsive to your concerns and this has been addressed with our managment team. It is our policy to listen to all our guest needs and to resolve any problems that may arise in a professional and timely matter. I apologize that this did not occur.
Thank you again for your honesty.
Sincerely,
Holiday Inn & Suites Parkway Conference Centre, St. Catharines

“Couple of bumps, but pretty good.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

We had a Life Experiences gift certificate for this hotel and spent this past Saturday night there. We upgraded to the King room with the jacuzzi and we were happy with the room. The jacuzzi was a special treat, the room was similar to the photos shown (we had a 1 bedroom - king bed, flat screen, microwave, decent size fridge, bathroom was equipped with a stand up shower, toilet, bidet and double sink, and separate room adjacent to the bed with double doors for the jacuzzi). The room was really nice and everything was in working order except for one of the nightstand lights, the view was awful - overlooking air conditioning units on the lower buildings, and the only downside to the room was the noisy hallway as our room was next to the elevator. A few times during the night we were woken up with noises but nothing major. The hotel is/has been going through reno's and there's tell-tale signs of things that still need repair and final touches like the doors mentioned in the previous review. One of the Elevators had movers blankets hung in them and one of the walls outside our room had wires sticking out of it. But I reiterate - the room itself was great. The gift card came with complimentary chocolates (which were blah) and a small wine gift set of an opener and bottle stopper, which we left in the room (wasn't something we needed). The package also included dinner in the hotel's restaurant which was decent. I had the flat iron steak and my DH had the veal parm. We were pretty full and took our dessert back to our room for later, including the remainder of our complimentary bottle of wine (which we forgot in the mini fridge!). Sunday morning we went down to the same restaurant for breakfast. Wow. Who knew that whoever made supper so yummy could ruin breakfast so badly! It was a buffet breakfast and it looked like it had been sitting there for days. The eggs were disgusting and potatoes were old. A very disappointing breakfast. They even charged me $2.50 for a small mug of tea! I bought an extra large tea the night before from the Timothy's in the hotel for $1.75! All in all, the room itself was pretty good. Go for dinner...but order off the menu for breakfast. We passed a gentleman eating eggs over-easy and they looked much more appetizing than our scrambled "buffet" special. Probably won't ever stay in this hotel again as the gift certificate was specific to this location - and not somewhere where we would have picked for a hotel. We're from Toronto and if we went to Niagara again we'd like to try a B&B in Niagara-on-the-lake. Overall, I give the hotel itself a "pretty decent" rating.

Room Tip: Room facing the front of the hotel will have a much better view.

“Disappointing.”

Stayed there while visiting our daughter in St.Catharines.

Waited in line at check-in for 5 minutes (Even as we were just by ourselves) as the receptionist was giving driving directions to a demanding customer over the phone!

The lobby looks good but this is it. The rooms although they were renovated, were not at par. We booked two rooms and after checking in, went to drop our bags and quickly found out we had a pleasant view over the garbage containers and the lower roof of the hotel. As we were going out for dinner and the room was extremely hot and humid, I set up the temperature using the air conditioner that was installed decades ago. Back from the restaurant, the room tempature was still warm but the carpet was all wet due to the air conditioner leaking very badly.

Staff was giving you the feeling that you were just another customer and perhaps the hotel management should not rely solely on late teenagers to greet customers. Next time, if there is no rooms available anywhere alse, I will go camping but will not going back to HI St.Catharines. Oh and I forgot, we received at check-in time, coupons for a cup of coffee at the restaurant located in the lobby. That must have been the only extra-value. We did not used the coupons, we prefered to go to Starbucks near by.
