“Look no further -- The only place to stay in Sault Ste. Marie! A++++”

We were very pleased with the accommodations offered. The rooms were clean, quiet and spacious, and offered free high speed internet, DVD players, large screen TV, fridge, microwave, full size coffee maker and hair dryer. The beds were very comfortable. The location was ideal, and was within walking distance of many fast food outlets. including a Chinese buffet restaurant. It was also within walking distance of excellent bargain priced shops. The motel also had a casino package free of charge with your stay. The staff were very courteous. We would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for accommodations in Sault Ste. Marie. Look no further -- you won't be disappointed!

Room smelled of stale cigarette smoke. Beds were ok. Very ordinary and old fashioned.

On occasion all establishments have someone the night before disregard their no-smoking policy. Our entire establishment is non-smoking and we do make it a habit to ozone our rooms and provide the most pleasant environment possible for our guests.

We cannot deal with situations unless we are notified and it is unfortunate that we were not notified by the individual that posted. Our goal as a family owned and operated establishment to provide a positive experience to our guests in all ways. We make it a practice to allow people to look at our rooms before checking in. If a problem is not expressed to us we cannot correct it.

Sincerely,
Manager, Catalina Motel.

“A pleasant surprise, we'd recommend.”

We booked this as a train tour package from the motels website ([--]) and it included 2 nights accommodations, 2 train tickets to Agawa Canyon, breakfast and lunch on the train, a casino voucher for a free gift (deck of cards), $5 to play with, a coupon book for free or reduced admission to attractions in Sault Ste. Marie. This cost $178/person.

When we first pulled into the parking lot, we thought it wasn't going to be a nice motel, but when we got in our room, we were pleasantly surprised. The room was updated and clean. We had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, cable TV, alarm clock, phone and a hair dryer.

We didn't hear any out side noise from the road with the A/C on, or even when the top window vents were open there was no loud traffic noise.

Oh, the beds were so comfy. I have never slept on a better bed at a motel, or hotel. They were better than mine at home. They must have been new this summer. The first night we slept together and the double was a little crowded for 2, but the next night we went solo and slept like babies.

The grocery store/ strip mall was right across the street, along with some fast food places and other places for shopping.

The Train Station was about a 5 min drive from the motel.

I'd recommend this motel, as it was a great place to stay comfortable for a couple nights at a reasonable price.

My family and I stayed at the Catalina Motel located at 259 Great Northern Road in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario P6B 4Z2, Canada in mid-June.

I found the motel via the area's visitor website. It looks charming. In reality, it is at the intersection of two very busy (noisy) roads.

Rooms and comfort earn 3/5. Cleanliness and value earn 4/5. You can park right outside your room door since it is a single-story property. There is a small refrigerator and a microwave. Soap and small packets of shampoo/conditioner are provided. There were too few towels and the towers were of the lowest quality. The room had, surprisingly, an ironing board and hair dryer. No pool. No breakfast.

When our tour of the Soo Locks was cancelled (they didn't have 10 adults show up for the 3pm Friday trip), we contacted the motel only to learn that they are so small that they rely on every booking. Cancelling our room without giving them 48 hours advance notice would have resulted in being charged for the full night's stay. So, we stayed.

We went to the nature trail at the lock and dam museum instead. It was a very good walk and we highly recommend it. 'Tis a shame about the lock tour on the boat, however. Our kids were looking forward to that!

  • Liked — clean and good value for Canada
  • Disliked — cancellation policy and absence of owner when we wanted to discuss cancelling
