There was a lot to like about this place:
1) An excellent central location, almost directly across the street from where you catch the tour train into the Algoma Woods;
2) Spacious, clean rooms;
3) An adjoining cafeteria that serves great breakfast omelets;
4) A spacious covered parking garage back of the motel - free to patrons
However, I did have some disappointments with the place:
1) The staff made no free access to the Internet available (unless you have your Wi-Fi-equipped computer/phone with you). However, whereas most hotels/motels have at least one free computer available in the lobby, this Travelodge charged patrons in 15-minute increments for access to the lobby computer. I had to pay $5 to use the computer for just 15 seconds;
2) The room I was in had no individual thermostat control. You had to be satisfied with whatever heating/cooling was centrally delivered to you;
3) The evening clerk was kind enough to deliver an extra blanket to my room at night. However in other respects, that clerk was not too helpful. When I asked for a map of Sault Ste. Marie main streets and attractions, she provided me with a very dated map that sent me on a wild goose chase looking for the tours through the Soo Locks from the Canadian side. After questioning several nonplussed sailors at the docks, I learned that those tours had been discontinued some years ago. When I complained to the clerk, she just shrugged. I could tell she wasn't going to make any attempt to supply up-dated tourist information to other patrons. I found such up-dated maps at some local restaurants.
On the whole though, the general good location and cleanliness of this place trumped any of these inconveniences.
