We often stay at the Days Inn in Sault Ste. Marie because of it's central location.
This time, we did not have so good of an experience.
I emailed the hotel several times, and received no response. I called and the reservations agent was very short with me, as if I was bothering her.
I ended up making my reservation online through Expedia.
We arrived to the Hotel, only to discover, ITS UNDERGOING RENOVATIONS... with a huge construction company sign in the parking lot.
This would have been VERY HELPFULY TO KNOW BEFORE ARRIVING.
There was no mention of construction on their website.
We decided to try and make the best of it. We arrived to check in and all of a sudden, a rumbling of jack hammers.. Apparently, they are tearing up their pool....(among other renovations) but that's ok, because as their guests, we were permitted to use the pool at the Delta, which is a 10 minute walk at least from the Days Inn.
We got to our room, and it faintly smelled of smoke... We figured there was a previous guest that smoked on the balcony, so didn't think anything of it.. The next morning, we were woken up by jackhammers (awesome!) We were gone most of the day, and upon returning, our room smelled like someone had cooked a deepfried meal IN OUR ROOM. Disgusted, my husband went to the front desk, and as he left the room, he could smell marijuana coming from the room next to us.
He mentioned it to the Front Desk Agent, she told him that this wasn't the first complaint about this guest (he's a long term stay I guess) and there was nothing they could do about it... (Oh.. I don't know, EVICT HIM FOR USING AN ILLEGAL SUBSTANCE?!)
Anyways, she was very nice, and moved us rooms...
Construction started promptly at 8:30am... So no need for a wake up call.
Continental breakfast was alright... nothing fancy....
The bed in the first room was rock hard - probably the worst mattress I have ever slept on. The bed in the second room, we were moved to, was VERY comfortable and NEW.
If you are a non smoker, take a room on the first floor.
The second floor is the smoking and kitchenette suites...
The third floor (where we were first) gets all the fumes from the second floor through the air return vent... (why our room smelled like smoke, and deep fried disgusting-ness)
I don't think we will ever stay at the Days Inn in Sault Ste. Marie again... I would rather pay a few extra bucks and stay elsewhere.
