I stayed at the Days Inn downtown Ottawa Dec 31- Jan 2nd. It was the cheapest hotel in Ottawa for New Years Eve at $100/night!! (eeep)
The location is perfect as it's central and walking distance to everywhere. If you can't do the 25 min walk or so to Parliament Hill then there are plenty of buses that run up and down Rideau Street.
I was given room 325 which was at the other end of the building and no where near the elevator.
The room was spacious and I was given a king bed which was extremely comfortable so kudos to that! The sink was in the main room, no in the bathroom itself which I always find weird and the fluorescent light above it kept flickering which was annoying but whatever - not the end of the world.
My biggest issue was that housekeeping never came the whole time I was there! They told me that I have to put a sign on the doorknob stating that I wanted housekeeping but there was no sign like that anywhere. I hated coming back to the room all messy. They also wouldn't bring up fresh towels. I had to go all the way back down to get some from the reception desk.
The room itself is clean so don't worry about bugs. There aren't any bedbugs that I could find. The bathroom was spotless but the toilet kept clogging the entire time.
All in all, it was comfortable and quiet but no frills for sure. The service was so-so and housekeeping non-existent so I didn't feel the value for money was there.
I am not sure if I'll stay there again to be honest. I guess if I am really stuck.
