“Completely disgusting”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012 via mobile

I am not one to complain.... However, this was disgusting.... For start we walked into the room and it reeked like stale cigarettes. The bedding was ripped, the towels smelled like smoke, the continental breakfast had barely any choice and there was a hair on the cups. Not to mention the dirty kleenex we found to the left of Our bed and how in the middle of winter there are ants in a room is beyond me. I will never ever stay here again... Utterly disgusted.

“Horrible Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

I recently stayed at this hotel and found it to be horrible. The front desk person was too busy on the phone to even acknowledge me entering. Once he did he was silent until he asked for my Credit Card. I asked him to be more vocal and explain why he was asking for all this info since it was already included with my reservation. He was extremely unhelpful and pretty rude could barely help us with Directions. A few minutes into checking in the 'managers' should up and started speaking in a foreign language very loudly at the desk like I wasn't there. (even the guuy at the desk seemed offended by this) The 'managers' also preceded to try and say hello to me but clearly did not understand I was already frustrated at how long my check in was taking. Also I should mention this hotel boasts a downtown and quiet location. If you do not know much of Ottawa I feel its important to inform you that this hotel is actually in a part of Ottawa called Vanier. It is a crowded low income part of town with more than it`s fair share of crime and problems. Plenty of bars and strip clubs, hookers and homeless around.

After finally Checking In and getting to my room I can tell you this place has not been renovated like their website and phone messages exclaim. The only thing that looks new is the wallpaper and the outside of the building. Clearly they just covered up all the problems rather than actually fix it. The carpets in the room and Hallways were disgusting in both smell and appearance. The rooms are really plain and look heavily used there were burn marks all over my sheets and blankets(I had a non-smoking room)..We also asked for a cot which we were told they had(says they do on their website) but after calling and asking for one cause it wasn't already in the room we were told they no longer offer them...no explanation as to why that wasn't mentioned to us.

The internet barely worked during our entire stay. Staff had no idea how to fix it and only offered excuses as to why it didn't work well. The 'maintenance' staff was sent to our room to fix our A/C(which barely worked for how loud it was)(looked older than 10 years) this employee looked like they had plucked him off the street, he was greasy and no uniform or smile. He was perhaps the most helpful and decent employee I dealt with despite his shady appearance.

During breakfast there was no one around to re-stock things they ran out of. The milk was left uncooled on the counter, the apple and orange juice is completely watered down and tastes expired. Coffee was cheap and bitter tasting. The breakfast was completely dry and tasteless very limited supply. The worst Continental breakfast I've ever seen. Thank god there is a Tim Horton's across the street.

At breakfast we spoke with some other guests whom were having a equally horrible experience. They basically mirrored our complaints but also were in one of the other buildings on the property which was apparently even worse and they felt unsafe.

We had reserved for 2 nights and had our reservation for months but on the second day of our stay the front desk called us at noon to ask us if we are checking out...we told them it was for another night as per our reservation and the guy claimed it was only one night on his end and he would likely need us to be out cause they needed our room. I was extremely angered by this and demanded to speak with management. I was told management was the reason I was being asked to check out and that neither 'manager' was on site to deal with this problem and he would call me back. Several angry minutes later I received a call from the desk again and the guy was sorry and said he was mistaken and I would be able to keep the room. How can a hotel possibly run like this.

Shortly after finding out I was staying in the same room I decided to shower....surprise surprise there was absolutely NO HOT WATER..so I immediately went to the desk to complain as this was getting to be too much. After arriving at the desk I found out that 3 other rooms in my building were complaining of the same thing and even the guy at the desk admitted this was a problem they had daily. I was told to go back to my room run the shower and sink on hot and flush the toilet several times until hot water returned...Seriously what kind of bull crap is that? a hotel should have hot water 24-7 for all rooms.

At check out we voiced our concerns and dissatisfaction with our entire stay. The guy at the desk basically half listened and nodded with a few muffled 'im sorry to hear that' style phrases now and then...he wrote down nothing we said and seemed to already be aware of all these problems. We then asked to speak with management. The 'office manager' an older gentleman(whose english is very broken) basically talked over us and barely listened to us. He offered a measly 20$ off my 129.99(+Tax) rate. Despite us repeatedly telling him it did`nt matter what he took off the damage was done. We mostly just wanted to have him hear us out so other future guests would`nt be so put off. He clearly had other things on his mind and after offering 20$ off brushed us off and did`nt take our complaints serious.

I will never ever recommend this place to anyone. Not even an enemy. You come to expect certain levels of comfort(ha) when checking into a hotel and I can tell you from the get go there is nothing comforting about this location. Choice hotels should seriously considering removing their name from this hotel. At least they should strip the comfort inn title from them and have them switch it to the Uncomfortable Inn. FOR SHAME!

Room Tip: Choose another hotel there are no good ones here.

“Bad, bad, and bad..”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

Ended up booking this place for a very last minute business trip, and they were the only ones with availability - and now I know why. It's basically like a cheap motel. The hotel looks very dated inside. The carpets have a terrible smell that hits you like a brick wall as soon as you walk in. The rooms aren't any better, and have the same smell, although not as concentrated as the halls (or maybe I just got used to the smell...). Anyways, I don't recommend this place. The neighborhood is not good, it's like the ghetto. The hotel is smelly and honestly it made me so disgusted I didn't even want to touch anything in there. Recommended = NO. For the price they charge, you can do alot better. But unfortunately this is all that was available when I was booking. But if you have time before booking, look at other hotels cause you could get something way nicer for same price!

“Driest breakfast ever and bad service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

We stayed in this Comfort Inn for 2 nights. What means Comfort in this hotel? One Lamp was broken, the remote control of the TV didn't work, the floor was dirty, and in the morning you can't get a parking lot, because it's obviously a Park and Ride place.
We complained about the lamp and the remote control early in the morning, but in the evening at 8 pm it wasn't repaired. We complained a second time, and waited 1 hour until a a nasty-smelling man came and exchanged the things.
The breakfast was the driest I have ever eaten in Canada. I needed three cups of coffee, to "wash down" the crossants. Next morning we went to Vanier Grill, 159 Montreal Rd, 200 m to the East. The interior is very simple. But we got for 5 Dollars a warm and very tasty breakfast.
