“An elegant victorian mansion with friendly and efficient modern service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011 via mobile

My wife and I are on our way home from two wonderful nights at the McGee's Inn. We had an amazing time staying in the Victorian Roses Suite, which featured an in room fireplace with complimentary firelogs nightly, and a massive jacuzzi tub. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud, and the free breakfasts were of a top notch restaurant quality. Modern amenities such as high speed wireless Internet were a convenience that allowed us to stay in the 21st century while enjoying the beautiful and classy surroundings provided by our hosts. The staff was incredibly attentive and helpful, and made our stay extra special. The b&b is also within walking distance of a 24 hour metro, an LCBO, the ByWard market, and the rideau canal and parliament buildings. The walk is short enough to be enjoyable, and parking in Ottawa is a total nightmare so take advantage of the handy maps and brochures.

Thank you for having us!

“very nice”

This is a very nice bed and breakfast. The room was clean, the staff were friendly and the breakfast was good. Close to downtown, and on a quiet street. Would stay here again!

“Why stay in a hotel when you can stay at McGee's?”

McGee's is a B&B a couple of blocks from the Byward neighborhood. It's a nicely furnished old house with FREE PARKING, located in a residential area. There's a nice sitting area out front with a garden and fountain, a computer so you can check in for your flight or find a great restaurant. My room was well furnished, with a little fridge and even a flat screen TV. Everything was clean and comfortable. My bathroom was updated, with nice towels and complementary cosmetic stuff. Breakfast! Made to order from a couple of choices, nice fruit, good coffee. Re: previous reviews. I found the staff friendly and helpful and I could open my window as well as the one in the bathroom.

“One Thing After Another”

Right from the minute I walked in, it was terrible! No one around to meet and greet, felt like I was a bother to the employees and owner. No hello, welcome, smiles or common pleasantries. Very snobbish attitudes. As soon as I saw someone, I was asked to change my room and that the room I was to be transferred to was "less expensive." Hmmm did I look like a person who couldn't afford the room that I pre-booked? Then when I was booking for the alternative room, one of the employees walked in and told the employee who was booking my room on the computer that she was booking it for someone else. Hmmm booted out of another room.
No instructions given re. access code to enter building, no notification that I was to book a breakfast time, how to return key (as I was leaving very early).
When I asked what was happening in Ottawa near the B&B, I was pointed to a computer.
Long distance calls: was given wrong instructions on how to make a call. One must buy a calling card from the B&B, which they did not have and I was expected to go out at 7 am to purchase a calling card! Then the Owner found one and I had to go and get it from her i.e. had to get dressed and inconviently leave my room.
Unclean rooms; for eg. dirty bathroom backsplash, outdoor furniture was filthy. Beds and pillows very uncomfortable. Very low water pressure in the tub/shower.
Pet Nanny tried to call the B&B but ended up getting rings but no answer.
I was told by the Owner, very embarrassingly in the Dining Room in front of other guests, that I could not present my Native Status card (for tax purposes). She actually said "no", when I advised her that I could in fact present my card, when she should have been saying that she would confirm with the Federal Government re. the use of my card. Turned out I was right, as I knew, but there was no apology, nothing for her error and the way in which she handled it. Funny, in a City such as Ottawa, I was surprised that the Owner would not be aware of this fact.

“Very nice place”

The McGee's Inn is in walking distance from downtown Ottawa. It is in a very beautiful, well maintained old building in a quiet street. Our room was very nice, and so were the owners. Breakfast was excellent, and one could spend the whole day in this nicely decorated house. The only drawback is the fact that one cannot really open the windows.
