After a bad stay at the Sheraton Ottawa, we were very much looking forward to our stay at the Westin.
It did not dissapoint!
From the moment we arrived we were treated well. The staff at the check-in desk welcomed us back, offered a nice upgrade to a very bright and spacious corner room overlooking Parliament (Room 2026). They let us know about all the amenities, made small chat with us while he was getting the room keys ready and asked if we needed any help with our bags.
I should point out, that even before our arrival we did receive an email from the Consierge welcoming us and asking if we needed dinner reservations or assistance with anything.
We did use the Consierge a few times while we were there and he was excellent. I believe his name was Guido. He was very friendly and helpful each time we needed help, usually with directions. He also recommended an excellent place for lunch one day for us!
The Lobby at the Westin is beautiful, nice seating and a contemporary fireplace warmed us up!
The hotel is connected to the Rideau Centre, which is nice if you need something you can just pop in and grab it without having to put on the parka, gloves, boots and jacket that you need in Ottawa.
Also nearby was the Byward Market which was fun to walk through. We also went skating on the Rideau Canal, which is just across the street from the hotel.
We went to see the Ottawa Senators lose to the Maple Leafs on the Saturday night. It was conveinent that there are buses that go from downtown (right across the street from the hotel) to Scotiabank on game night. It would be a long and expensive cab ride, compared to the $3.25 it was for the bus.
Scotiabank place was a terrific stadium, not a bad seat in the house.
I will say that the Toronto fans weren't the most gracious winners. On the long bus ride back they mercilessly were mocking and being quite rude to some of the Sens fans on the bus. I was surprised though how outnumbered the Sens fans were at home though. I guess that is due to the cost of Leaf tickets in Toronto, that it is cheaper to go to Ottawa to see them play.
The next day we made use of the Gym facilities which were excellent and also got a massage. It was a nice relaxing day overall.
The next time I come to Ottawa, there is no question I will be staying at the Westin!
