Rooms were clean, breakfast and brunch was OK, service was mediocre. The staff at this hotel are young and inexperienced. I asked the front desk where I could go for a nice walk, and was told to walk along the highway until I got to the locks up the river. In defense of the staff, there is not path to walk along the river, and the walk around the locks was beautiful. It's closer to a "motel" than a resort, although it's trying really hard...

We ate on a dirty table at breakfast, as the guy busing tables was slow and obviously hating his job. At brunch they had a crepe/omelette bar, but the crepes were pre-made, with an obvious industrial shape to them, and just re-heated. I guess some people will be impressed by crepes made this way? People who are used to staying in a motel, maybe.

The hotel seems to attract a lot of visitors with kids because of its pool. The pool is nice for relaxing, but the kids, not so much :-) This makes it more of a motel than a resort.

I've seen the other reviews, and it seems possible that some of these folks may be mental or perhaps just unlucky. I've stayed at the Monterry Inn more than once. I was there in Nov, 08, Dec 08, Feb. 09, April 09 and recently July 09 and don't have any complaints. The rooms a clean and neat. Its pretty obvious that it was built in stages so the older parts so age and new section is ... well new. What else would you expect? The staff has always been very courtious and helpful. They also have a little resturant/bar in basement of the main building. The food is really good and they have a very nice bar selection (especially nice Scotch selection). I suppose somebody could find something wrong with the Monterry Inn, but they'd probably whine about the weather too.

I read the reviews but I didn't listen... A lot said that the place was run down and that the staff tended to lose cancellations or cancel them altogether. Well...they were all right. I spoke with them when I booked for a good half hour before booking. What was important to me was the balcony. I wanted a GREAT view of the river. He told me the best room is the top floor of the Executive Building and we talked for a half hour before he convinced me to book it. When we got there, I was told I was on the 2nd floor, not the 4th floor as promised. I showed the girl all my notes and she said "oh sorry, but that room was booked like a year ago by another couple already"...so why was I booked into it too? So this means that if you have a speficic room or floor in mind, make sure you get it in writing cuz they will just put you wherever they want and they don't really care. The Room was so-so. 1940s satin bedspread, treadbare carpetting, paint peeling everywhere, a lot of rust in the bathroom, tv with poor reception, a work desk with no internet accesss...the access was across the room 30ft away in the kitchen or in the bedroom and the cable they gave you was not long enough to reach the work desk. Left the room at 11:00 to go shopping, came back at 2:30 and still was not made up. No towels when we arrived after checkin at 3:45. And on and on and on. Do I recommend this hotel - NO WAY... Will I ever go again? NO WAY!!!

On the way to the room, we pass by the kitchen door and it stinks a lot. There are lots of garbages everywhere, apples, bottles and broken glass. There are stinking garbage can without tops near principal doors. By the way, these garbage cans are for indoor use not for an outside use. An ugly maintenance cart is left by the stairs. Our room entrance was not finished to be painted. There is no extinguisher in its place. Their asphalt holes are dangerous near the principal door of our building. I stubled on dangerous stairs gaffer-taped. There are still Christmas lights on April 2nd. All interior and exterior lights are on during the day and the night. A ladder was left outside. Anyone could take it and get access to our window's room on the second floor. There was no ice machine in our building, I had to walk back to the principal building to get ice. 111,87$ is too much expensive for this one star below average quality of room during low season. They don't know much about surrounding businesses. I asked for a flower shop near by. They sent me to a Loeb's in renovations without any flower shop. The manager has a bad attitude towards customer. Why do they call that a resort? We don't have the same definition of a "resort"...
