I have traveled twice to Ottawa in the past two weeks, the second time with my entire team and both times stayed at the WelcomInn. The staff were very hospitable, the beds were comfortable, the rooms were clean and the modest, free continental breakfast was sufficient. Also, being right across the street from the St. Laurent shopping centre and easily accessible to the 417,made this hotel a great deal.

This hotel is a good option if you don't find something cheap in downtown Ottawa. It's not far from the city centre but you do need to take a bus. So, if you are there for one or two nights it's not a big deal.

Hotel is average, well organized and with spacious clean rooms. Free breakfast is quite good, including toast, muffins, fruits, juices, coffee, tea, etc!

Funny how the reception staff can impact your impression of a hotel. Checked in yesterday with friendly helpful girl, guy on day shift also very friendly. This evening I asked about the shuttle to the train station (there is a timetable on the check in counter) he said that was for VIA staff only. When I commented that it doesn't indicate that on the schedule and was a little misleading to have it on the counter he just shrugged. He didn't offer anything further so I asked if he would order me a cab, he pointed to a phone in the lobby. Later I came out of the elevator in the lobby pushing a cart with two large bags on it, the same guy was standing between me and the door. He walked back to the counter and pretended to ignore me as I struggled with the doors. What a charming gentleman! The hotel itself is ok. No one mentioned the renovations which included a guy sanding the elevator doors (with a noisy electric sander) by my room for an hour today. Breakfast is limited to cornflakes, raisin bran or toast. The bed is comfy enough, typical cheap thin blanket. The shower curtain is barely long enough to stay in the bath turning the bathroom into a wet room and the non slip strips make taking a bath an exfoliating experience. It was $14 per night cheaper to book on expedia than on the hotel's own website. I paid $96 a night which was the cheapest I could find near the VIA rail station. If buddy hadn't delivered such poor customer service twice back to back I probably would be happier, doesn't cost anything to be polite but being impolite just cost you my return custom.

this nice little hotel is fantastic

at first it doesn't look like (from outside),

but I can tell you the rooms are fantastic, clean & comfortable
each time I stay in Ottawa I stay there.

very nice staff, breakfast included in the price & served at the front desk table area

there is a small shopping mall next to it 7 mins walk (shops, cinemas, food court)
