the hotel looks very gloomy when you drive up to it. The reception area is kept well but thats where it stops. The carpet is very old and stained. We were put in a room that was drenched with the smell of smoke. When we told the staff they switched us right away.

The room and all its features are very outdated. The washroom was old. Nothing major wrong with this hotel though. If you need a cheap place to stay then you can go for this. I would not go there with family.

Arrived here for a hockey tournament to find that we had been overbooked, despite guaranteed reservation. Fortunately we turned up as 2 guests and not the intended 4 in the family. We ended up in a double room with a cot for my daughter. One girl on the front desk was most unhelpful and told me that I was getting a good rate at the group discount and should be grateful. The other girl on the front desk was most helpful and put me in touch with the manager. Michael, the manager, was most apologetic and ended up giving us 50% discount and a meal voucher. He was excellent. That was better but can't take away from the fact that the hotel is tired, cracks and stains in the bath tub, the pool was freezing (my daughter lasted 3 minutes - no joke) and no hot tub. Had to go back to the desk to ask for towels and a chair had to be removed from the room to fit in the cot, it was that small. I wouldn't stay here again and would not recommend it either.

Simply understand that you are getting a 2 star motel in every respect. Not that this is a bad thing but know in advance what you are getting so that you are not disappointed. The hotel was clean but decor is outdated and the rooms are smaller than average. Also, the pool was not open and the free internet was incredibly slow. Stay there if you get a very low rate and you only need it for sleeping. You won't want to stay on site much.

I travel to Ottawa regularily for business and always stay at the Travellodge. Rates are good and the staff are great to deal with. I recommend this to anyone visting Ottawa in the near future.
