“NEVER AGAIN!!”

Travelled across canada and stayed couples of night here! Worst experience EVER!! Had to wait 30 mins at front desk for someone to check me in.. My room was double booked so i was switched from a queen size bed to 2 singles. (not impressed cause we asked for queen 4 months in advance) The bed are not comfy at all, PLASTIC PILLOWS!! Heat harldy worked, asked for extra blankets. Recieved what looked like a OLD blanket that looked like a dog slept on ,and it did not smell clean. No one is in the building at night, if you leave to go to out, and not back by 11 pm, then you are .locked out! as well this is a major safety issue! I left 1 day early. oh ya and mice poop in the closet. The internet didnt work either. The restaurants there are ok, poorly ran by managment, asked to speak with a owner and or manager and the server said they are not on the building. I left my name and numbe and i received no phone call back!

“Ideal for your worst enemy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2008

We are from the UK and were visitng family in Carelton Place and wanted to stay in the centre - the central location is the only good thing going for this hotel.
It took ages to check in as there was no-one on the front desk and we had to scour the building to find someone who could help us. That took some doing as the polite-ish but obviously untrained girls had no idea so we fumbled our way through the check in...same scenario for check out.... We spent four nights there and then a further night two days later and the check in and out experience was bad both times - so it can;t be put down to a one off.

The reception area was tired and astoundingly filthy - the carpet was worn and rucked up and the flooring in the elevatopr had not had a scrub since about 1972.
It was hot (about 28-30 degrees) and so the air con in our room rumbled loudly - unfortunately it could not cope and spat small icicles and dripped all over the floor (and onto our clothes in the wardrobe if we left the doors open), soaking the various towels we put down. There were hairs and dirt in the bathroom, no lid for the WC. Otherwise the room was just about adequate. It would have been more comfortable if the pillows had not been rock hard and covered in a rubber / plastic sleeve.

We frequently stay in budget hotels and we're not especially fussy but this has to rate as one of the worst experiences ever. We had just come from a stay in the Days Inn in downtown Toronto which was about the same price but it was clean, comfortable and had tea/ coffee making in the room - unlike Heritage where you have to trek over the road to Tim Horton's to get a morning cuppa. The place was drab and most of all we had the very strong impression that the owners did not give a stuff. This is an ideal hotel for your worst enemy and I bet the environmental health people would have a cockroach-finding field day. A vile experience I shall never repeat.

  • Liked — location - central
  • Disliked — dirt, discomfort and indifference.

“Worse service ever and I have been to Africa (that says something)”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2008

I had searched the web in need of a over night stay for a funeral and needed a place with what I thought was some class. There website looked nice, the place had two places to eat and was in the center of town, perfect I though.

When checkin the problems started, no one at the front desk, no one around had to call the booking number to get someon to check in. No problem someone answers, I get to my room, now one reason I picked this place was the internet (don't work)

So, I get to my room, lovely but small and find the door lock cheap and not very secure (no safe inside, no one at the front desk to leave things with), I never left anything of value in the room given there was no one in the building (they were in the serving food) and the door was not very secure.

I tried to get some help with the internet, of course the one employee who is in (for the bar, the fine dining, the hotel) is busy and has no clue about internet (not her problem) but wow she was everything to all persons and I KNEW then I was in deep water for any sort of service: food, hotel needs, security, safety etc.

IF you think for a moment , anyone could walk into the hotel go to any room , force these unsafe locks and take anything they want and walk out. Another, should I have been a senior and slipped and fell on the stairs I may have add to wait for hours for rescue.

A lovely place someone has done alot of work on the building and it shows but the staffing was so poor it was better to go to the local roach motel.

Do not go here, call ahead to make sure there will be staff, should they change.

A never return again. They offered comp and I flattly did not want comp just out of there.

  • Liked — It was lovely detailing of the building
  • Disliked — No staff at all

“has potential but we won't be back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2007

Beautiful old limestone building. Hotel has tons of potential to be a beautiful grand place, but needs maintenance and TLC. The service leaves much to be desired - no one at the front desk when we checked in, tried to raise concerns or when we checked out. When our babysitter tried to call us she couldn't get through to our room as there is not an automatic phone system for the times that the desk is left unattended - often. The doors of the hotel are locked at 2am and are not unlocked until later in the morning...therefore don't expect to go out and get back in again as guests are not given a key to the exterior door. However, we doubt that the fire escape was locked. On the second floor, an air mattress was propped up beneath an emergency exit sign and appeared to be used to block the exit. We liked the wifi internet access, a definite plus in a hotel of this calibre. We wondered if the modem would overload the electrical circuit as it appeared tied into the emergency lights. The staff did appear to try hard for the most part but they do double duty as servers at the pub and spend the majority of their time in the pub. Overall, not impressed and likely won't be back.

  • Liked — Character of the physical building.
  • Disliked — Room was either too hot or too cold - thermostat must not have worked.
