I didn't see a lot of the hotel as I arrived later in the evening and left early in the morning on a business trip. Parking for small to mid sized cars is available off of King Edward (east side of the hotel). It is pay parking and you have to get your ticket at a machine that dispenses tickets. I wasn't the one to get the ticket for the company car so I don't know how much it costs. It is indoor parking, which was nice but it's pretty tight. There is an elevator to take you up to the lobby if you don't want to use the stairs.
The lobby was nice and well lit. There was a small sitting area with a fireplace. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. The room I had was nice with fairly recent furnishings and a large flat screen t.v. There's a stand alone wardrobe for hanging clothing in as there is no closet. The bed was a queen and very comfortable with warm blankets and really fluffy pillows. I did find the wireless internet connection a little weak but I was able to get some work done. The room had the usual amenities, iron, ironing board, coffee maker, hairdryer, etc. The bathroom was very clean and the shower head was decent.
The on site restaurant is a Don Cherry's, which was pretty good. They have some good specials for each day of the week and the hotel provided a coupon for a 10% discount on lunch or dinner. Our server was very friendly and checked in on us frequently. As an added bonus the hotel also provided a coupon for a free breakfast at Cherry's. The breakfast consisted of a choice of two eggs any style, choice of potatoes or baked beans, choice of meat, toast and endless coffee or tea. It beats muffins and bagels.
I didn't pay but the room was reasonable and the hotel is just a couple blocks from By-ward Market. There's also an LCBO located conveniently across Rideau on the hotel's south side. On the east side (King Edward) is a gas station.
Overall it was a good stay and I would go back if I had business in that area of town again. I would have to say that I couldn't stay there for pleasure because my personal vehicle wouldn't fit in the underground parking. There is a pay lot on the west side of the hotel, but I don't know how much it costs. Generally when I travel for pleasure I don't stay where parking isn't included.
Room Tip: Very few rooms have a good view of downtown Ottawa. If you really want a nice view, you may want to...
