“Lovely hotel, great location, wonderful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Just got back two days ago from Ottawa. Stayed here and would definitely stay again. The location is within walking distance to the Rideau Canal (I skated it twice!), Byward Market, the Parliament Buildings, etc. The room was spotless, as was the bathroom. I'm really fussy about things like that, and had no complaints. The beds are very comfortable and the TV was perfect. Enjoyed the buffet breakfast which had a nice variety to choose from. Staff were very friendly and the Starbuck's was a nice bonus. We used the Business Centre as well. Checked out the pool and jacuzzi. Both looked very clean, although we didn't use either. Our room faced the back, not the park, which made no difference as we weren't in it very much. I would definitely stay again, and would urge you to do the same.

Thank you for the great feedback and detailng all of the highlights of your stay.

Our executive housekeeper will be thrilled to hear your comments about cleanliness. She is a true veteran and takes feedback to heart, so this will make her day!

We have recently purchased all new beds and the new 42" TV's were just installed last month, so we are delighted to hear you enjoyed both. I purchased one of the beds myself, so can't agree more - they are comfortable!

Winterlude is one of our favorite times of year with all the festivities so close to us. Being just across the street from the Rideau Canal and the Crystal Garden makes us a popular place to stay. We are very fortunate.

We do hope to welcome you back soon. Many thanks!!

With sincere best wishes,

“L.E. - Oooh La-La!”

We go to Ottawa 2-3 times per year for a get-a-way. We always stay at the Lord Elgin! Why?
The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming.
The room is cozy and quiet - get one that faces Confederation Park.
The dining room staff are lovely. On our last visit we had an ill family member in hospital and we were so tired - the server was just so accommodating and kept the coffee coming.
The location of the hotel is great for the National Arts Centre, the Rideau Centre and Byward Market.
And did I mention that there is a Starbucks in the hotel. I live in a small town = no strong coffee - so Starbucks is a super treat.
We love this hotel, we make memories and we always come back!

Room Tip: Face Confederation Park

“A bit dated looking but comfortable and nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

The Lord Elgin is a nice for a good price. It has the look and style of the old style high end hotels but could use a bit of renovation in the lobby and common areas, it doesn't strictly need a renovation but it would probably make the hotel look very nice. The hotel staff were friendly, especially the front desk who helped me out quite a bit. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Exercise equipment is in good condition, the pool and hot tub were nice, on cold days the hot tub was a nice way to relax.

Only thing of note is that the rooms are all wired internet, no wireless. That's not a big deal for me and given the concrete construction of the building I can definitely see that wireless would be problematic, a good wired connection beats a poor wireless one any day.

Overall I enjoyed the hotel and would stay there again.

We are very grateful for the positive feedback you have shared. It also gives us an opportunity to update you on some great news.

As we speak, we are wrapping up the installation of wireless internet throughout the hotel. This should be complete by this time next week. As well, we will be replacing all the cabling, so our bandwidth will be much larger.

We are also planning to renovate our lobby area this year. We are all very excited about the plans. You will have to come back and see it when it is finished.

Thank you again for the wonderful compliments. They make our day!!

“Beautiful, Beautiful and Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed here last year for Winterlude. Our room overlooked the park with a spectacular view of the city. This hotel had everything we needed and more. Great location, great staff, great rooms, etc. We enjoyed talking to the guys working the valet. It seemed that most of them were hockey players. The hotel is also conveniently located close to all winterlude activities and the byward market. We would absolutely stay here again next time we visit Ottawa.

Room Tip: Book a room overlooking the park. It's well worth the price.

Thank you for the great feedback. Ironic that we are just gearing up for another Winterlude. We love this time of year. There is so much energy around the hotel. The canal is in great shape and they have added some beautiful new change buidlings on the canal. The ice carvings are being worked now in time for the judging that happens in two days. We are a sponsor hotel, so we have a beautiful carving in front of the restaurant that was done just yesterday by ice carvers from Siberia. I love to watch them as they work. What talent!

You are right - we are so fortunate to be in such a great location for this festival. We hope you will have a chance to return this Winterlude. There is so much planned - it is a special year with the Queen's jubilee.

Thank you again. We look forward to having you with us again.

Kind regards,

“Great Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I've been to Ottawa a few times already for business and I found the hotels to vary in customer relations and room quality. The Lord Elgin is a great place to stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the on-site restaurant, Grill 41, is great. I don't particularily like Starbucks but there is one at the hotel.

The location of the hotel is great. There are quite a few restaurants down Elgin street and the Rideau Center is a short walk across the park to the Sears entrance.

The room itself was very small but it got the job done. I'm not sure whether it's because of the old architecture that the rooms are so small because I've had this same experience with another hotel which was at one time a fort. I think the dimensions of the room may have been about 10ft x 15ft (not including the bathroom). The bathroom was also on the small side, with the lavatory sitting behind the door.

All in all, the stay was enjoyable. Next time I'll try and see if they have a larger room.

We greatly appreciate your feedback. You have certainly pointed out what we consider to be our strongpoints - location and service.

As you mentioned, we are an historic property and yes, have a variety of room configurations. Many are quite roomy and the higher ceilings make them feel even more so. We certainly are more than happy to accommodate a request for another room type if availability allows. Upon your next stay, do not hestitate to make such a request if the room is not to your liking. We want to ensure you find your room restful and comfortable.

Thank you for all the positive comments. We have a great team that are a joy to work with.

We look forward to welcoming you back.
