“Beautiful, Beautiful and Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed here last year for Winterlude. Our room overlooked the park with a spectacular view of the city. This hotel had everything we needed and more. Great location, great staff, great rooms, etc. We enjoyed talking to the guys working the valet. It seemed that most of them were hockey players. The hotel is also conveniently located close to all winterlude activities and the byward market. We would absolutely stay here again next time we visit Ottawa.

Room Tip: Book a room overlooking the park. It's well worth the price.

Thank you for the great feedback. Ironic that we are just gearing up for another Winterlude. We love this time of year. There is so much energy around the hotel. The canal is in great shape and they have added some beautiful new change buidlings on the canal. The ice carvings are being worked now in time for the judging that happens in two days. We are a sponsor hotel, so we have a beautiful carving in front of the restaurant that was done just yesterday by ice carvers from Siberia. I love to watch them as they work. What talent!

You are right - we are so fortunate to be in such a great location for this festival. We hope you will have a chance to return this Winterlude. There is so much planned - it is a special year with the Queen's jubilee.

Thank you again. We look forward to having you with us again.

Kind regards,

“Great Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I've been to Ottawa a few times already for business and I found the hotels to vary in customer relations and room quality. The Lord Elgin is a great place to stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the on-site restaurant, Grill 41, is great. I don't particularily like Starbucks but there is one at the hotel.

The location of the hotel is great. There are quite a few restaurants down Elgin street and the Rideau Center is a short walk across the park to the Sears entrance.

The room itself was very small but it got the job done. I'm not sure whether it's because of the old architecture that the rooms are so small because I've had this same experience with another hotel which was at one time a fort. I think the dimensions of the room may have been about 10ft x 15ft (not including the bathroom). The bathroom was also on the small side, with the lavatory sitting behind the door.

All in all, the stay was enjoyable. Next time I'll try and see if they have a larger room.

We greatly appreciate your feedback. You have certainly pointed out what we consider to be our strongpoints - location and service.

As you mentioned, we are an historic property and yes, have a variety of room configurations. Many are quite roomy and the higher ceilings make them feel even more so. We certainly are more than happy to accommodate a request for another room type if availability allows. Upon your next stay, do not hestitate to make such a request if the room is not to your liking. We want to ensure you find your room restful and comfortable.

Thank you for all the positive comments. We have a great team that are a joy to work with.

We look forward to welcoming you back.

Best wishes,

“Third time is still a charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I stayed a week at the Lord Elgin for the third time since September. This time, I brought my husband with me to see Ottawa. He really liked the hotel, as I do, because the staff is just so wonderfully friendly. They really make you feel at home--I have never felt so comfortable in a hotel anywhere. I was there for business and we had a catered event at Grill 41 that went very well. I would recommend the Lord Elgin for business or family travelers. I always use the business center to print my boarding passes--very convenient. They also have a Starbucks in the lobby--again, very convenient.

Room Tip: If you're staying longer than a few days, try to get a room with a mini-fridge.

“Awesome location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I have been to the Lord Elgin several times, on business as well as personal. Awesome location, outstanding staff, however at times it is a hit and miss with the quality of service, mind you that was a week end. The Lord Elgin is my hotel of choice for Ottawa, it is clean, warm and I look forward to my return trip in Feburary and October.

Room Tip: The view of Confederation Park is great. Ask for 8th floor or higher.

Thank you so much for your feedback following your recent stay and for your continued loyalty. We are fortunate to enjoy such a great location with a beautiful park across the street to look at.

We would invite you at any time to give us feedback if the service is anything but excellent. It should be consistent at all times. Weekends should be no exception.

We are thrilled to hear you are planning to return in February and October. A returning guest is our best compliment.

Thank you again.

“Is that it?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Stayed there for three nights on business. Very nice staff and lobby. The room was very small. Bathroom even smaller. So-called Queen size bed was like a rock. I visited my colleague's room and found that it was much nicer and roomier. Didn't bother to make a fuss as I was busy at work and didn't need the hastle. Very convenient location. I will stay there again in the future but I will ask to see the room first.

Room Tip: Look first.

Thank you for your feedback.

We are sorry to hear that you did not find your guestroom to be roomy enough. As an historic property, many of our rooms have unique layouts and designs. They also have higher ceilings than more traditional hotels, which give rooms a feeling of spaciousness. We are sorry that your room did not meet your expectations. We would have preferred letting us know while you were with us so we could have offered you an alternative room type. It would be our pleasure to show you a couple of different room types in advance of your next stay.

The beds are new Simmons Beautyrest Pocketcoil. We can appreciate that bed types and the level of firmness is very much a personal preference. We have received a great deal of very positive feedback when we replaced all of them this past year.

We would be delighted to have you with us again upon your next visit to Ottawa and ensure your next stay will be most enjoyable and comfortable

With sincere best wishes,
