“Deceptive and misleading”

I booked this hotel to have someplace in the West End to stay with my boyfriend for a couple days after he returned from Afghanistan. I was looking for a hotel in the west end of Ottawa, as opposed to downtown, where I usually stay, but looking at other reviews and their website, the Embassy West seemed perfect.

I went to check in and was so confused when I got there, I asked why the signs outside all referenced the fact that it was a senior's residence rather than a hotel. The man at the front desk standing beside the sign for meeting about controlling diabetes and avoiding slips and falls, assured me that it was a hotel AND retirement home while moving aside the giant residence visitor sign-in binder, as if that was perfectly normal.

I had no time to cancel my reservation, as I had to get to the airport soon, so I went to my room to drop off my stuff.

The renovations being complete were another lie from this hotel. The elevators were tiny and dirty, and construction workers were in and out. Simply looking in the first floor windows you could see hanging wires and other incomplete renovations.

Stepping into the room I was so disappointed. These rooms look nothing like the beautiful ones of the website. The bed took up most of the space, and the call cords around the room were so bizarre. There was no bathtub, only a shower with a shower seat, that when lowered (to use as a shelf for my shampoo etc) made a huge BANG!

The whole room smelled overwhelming like "old people" and particularly like hand soap. I'm pretty sensitive to smells, so that was another problem.

The bed was rock hard and creaked at the slightest movement. Let's just say it was not the most conducive environment for a romantic reunion.

I checked out the next day, voicing my concerns and filling out the comment card with how I felt their bait and switch and misrepresentation online was awful, but despite leaving contact information, never received a reply from management. And that's not surprising, obviously I am not their target costumer.

This an an awful hotel, with awful practices, trying to make a couple extra bucks by tricking people into staying there.

“worst hotel I have ever experienced in the world, and i've been around the world.”

We have travelled a lot around the world. We have been to hostels in developing countries that were more acceptable than this hotel.

This is not a hotel, its a seniors residence. If you want cheap with no expectations, this is your place. If you want cheap with clean beds and comfortable vibe, you can do better.

We booked online, with the premise of a luxury hotel offering a great deal. When we arrived, we drove past it a few times. The sign did say Embassy West, but under it it said Seniors Residence. We went in, confused that perhaps I had the wrong address. It turns out it was the hotel I had booked online. The one that showed beautiful rooms and an elegant dining area.

Once we were over the weirdness of hotel rooms scattered about seniors apartments, we proceeded to our room. It was a nightmare. The floors and counters were new, but the bed and the bedding was a good 35 years old. I was terrified to even lift the sheets. The old wire spring mattress bed was musky and uncomfortable

It was suppose to be a romantic weekend away with my husband. But something about the emergency call buttons beside my bed and the hospital like bathroom, was not quite the romantic turn on for us. Intimacy was out of the question, with people living next door, and social gatherings going on across the hall. It would have been like having sex in my grandmothers house when her bridge party was going on. A hotel room beside a residence's room was creepy and awkward.

I felt like we were staying in hospital. The call buttons, the stark sterile looking bathroom (with another call cord beside the toilet). I hope the residences room are nicer, because it just felt like upscale hospice.

The 'elegant dining' area was were the residents had their meals. Nothing wrong with that, but dining as a guest where people live and get their three square meals a day was not the vibe one would expect.

Do not believe the other reports, no doubt they wrote them themselves.

“Disgusted!!!!”

STAY AWAY from this HOTEL....(..period!!).

From the time of booking this hotel, to us arriving, we have been lied to.
Booked the hotel via phone, was told about the renos, but NO mention that the hotel is being coverted to a Seniors Home and already Seniors are living on the premise. Was told the swimming pool was out of service when I booked, which was fine as we were there on business....BUT no mention that the only restaurant in the hotel was only open from 7-10am and then 11am - 1pm. When I questioned front desk, the gentleman was utterly rude and told me that he had worked there for several years and the hours were always that way. I told him that he should then change his Guest Service book as it states the restaurant is open until 10pm. Travelling with my 3yrs old, I couldn't even get a glass of milk for her bedtime. We had to leave the hotel, to get milk.....how pathetic!!!
Also, the gym was closed!...yet this was not mentioned to me. Again, it was noted as being available in the Guest Services book.
Think I am finished, the best part is coming up NOW!!!
After we came home from having dinner outside our hotel, we came into our room. We were trying to enjoy our evening, when the power shutoff. There was a power outage that lasted for four hours. NOBODY from the Hotel personnel had the courtesy to come and inform us of what the situation was. I had to leave my husband with my 3yrs old and try to navigate my way to the emergency Exit stairwell. Came to front desk and after a long convo, I was told my room would be covered due to the inconvenience. When checking out, was told that the person I talked to had no authorization to give me a free room. Not my problem, and how would I know that the person that is supposedly the Front Desk Assistant manager has no authority. Again, we were lied to.
There were a lot more headaches but dIdn't want to write a novel, two words should sum it up for you: STAY AWAY!!!!!!

“Amazing stay with newly renovated rooms and friendly staff!”

The check-in and check-out process was very easy. I loved my room. It was a perfect stay and a very reasonable price. The room came with a plasma, a walking closet, a big bathroom, and a mini-kitchen. It was very enjoyable. The staff was very acommodating. All these reviews must be from before the renovation or while this place was under construction because this hotel seems great to me.
