“Great Location, Great Value.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

We stayed at this hotel for four nights on our first ever visit to Ottawa. We didn't rent a car, but had no trouble getting to and from our chosen destinations. It was a short walk from Parliament, Rideau Centre Mall, National Gallery, etc... The hotel wasn't on the most attractive of blocks, but a 2 or 3 minute walk took us out of that.

The room suited our purpose. It was old, but clean and had no evidence of bed bugs. The staff were friendly and held onto our bags on the first day until check-in so we could explore. They were also very accomodating with our other requests.

The continental breakfast was fine. Nothing spectacular, but there was some variety.

Overall this hotel is exactly as the slogan says... "Spend a night, not a fortune." Don't expect luxury, but it's a good place to crash after a long day of exploring and/or shopping.

“Not Bad, Not Great Either”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2010

Looks sketchy on the outside, rooms are reasonable. Got a deal on a discount website, so the price was good, but I certainly wouldn't pay more than the $70 a night I paid. They were also unwilling to rectify an issue - we had asked for a double room, and got one double bed for three of us - based on the "restrictions of booking through an outside agent." The bed was fairly comfortable, and considering we only slept in the room, it was serviceable.
The best part was that it was a short 15 - 20 minute walk to Byward Market and Centretown, as well as being near grocery stores, international restaurants and liquor stores.

“Step Up From A Homeless Shelter”

Checked in after driving in from Montreal. As soon as we got into the parking lot, my wife tells me she has a bad feeling. The lot was filled with trash. Checking in went well. The front desk attendand was nice and showed us how to get to the local attractions.

As soon as we stepped into the room things went down hill. The room was really old and had a smell. The motel room door was moldy and nasty. The curtain had huge holes in it and the traffic from street could be heard the entire night. The entire room felt really dirty. the light in the bathroom light took five minutes to come on, the bathtub was clogged, and the anti-slip mat was dirty. Neither of us wanted to even touch the floor or the bed comforter.

We checked out early and paid the extra $30 on a much better room in another hotel.

On the plus side, the working girl in the room next to us was quiet through out the night and my car was still in one piece the next morning. The breakfast was ok.

“Too expensive for this!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2010

We traveled with our adult children and when we arrived, my son was worried about the neighborhood. Then when we opened the door to the motel he wanted to forego the money we had paid in advance ($100) and go somewhere else! We showed him that the room was clean, we wouldn't shower in the crummy little bathroom and the parking lot was filling up with nice cars like ours (more tourists). The breakfast in the morning was a pleasant surprise, much nicer than we were expecting. All in all it turned out o.k. in spite of the dinginess of the room but we will think twice before we do Econo Lodge again. Not worth the money. We could have gotten a really nice place for $20 more - much worth it!!

“Cheap and clean, served it's purpose”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

We were only staying one night, wouldn't have wanted to stay in this type of place for much longer. Just needed somewhere to sleep.

The room was clean and had the required facilities. Could do with a bit of a make over, was a bit tired and dark.

The bathroom was ok, mildew on the shower curtain and the rolled up bath mat was a bit grim!

The breakfast was ok, lots of choice, cramped breakfast room.

It took us 20 mins to walk to the centre of Ottawa.

Room was fairly large.

Would recommend to people who just want a place to sleep, but not luxury!
