“A Wonderful Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2010

This B&B is simply BEAUTIFUL inside and out and centrally located. My husband and I stayed here for Valentine's day and were treated to a really nice, comfortable stay. The main floor room we stayed in was breathtakingly beautiful, as were the loft style rooms that we looked at. Breakfast was really yummy and we were surprised with a little treat for Valentine's, 2 little cupcakes with heart shaped biscuits on top. It was a really nice touch on top of the nice spread of the buffet style breakfast. The hosts were super nice and eager to please and we look forward to another stay here, hopefully in the near future.

“A wonderful Inn”

We stayed at the Allison House from Aug 26-29 and had great time. We had been to N.O. T. L . many times over the years and chose Allison House this time for it's great proximity to the main street in town and restaurants. The Shaw theater is close. We also were interested in the history of the building. We stayed 1 night in the Arthur's chamber and 2 nights in the Cranberry Suite. Both rooms were wonderful, clean and nicely appointed. The grounds were beautiful and restful and the parking on site was handy. The hosts, Patricia and Gregg are very welcoming and gracious and are pleased to help with any suggestions, or advice, directions, anything at all. Gregg especially is very informative on local history and info. The breakfasts were amazing and changed daily from fabulous rolled omelettes and quiches and potatoes and fresh fruit cereals and yogurts. The beautiful wood interior in the lobby and dining room added to the coziness. This place would be wonderful in the winter! The transformation of this schoolhouse has been a labor of love and has paid close attention to detail. You will not be dissappointed if you stay at Allison House Inn.

“Pretty, but can't recommend"”

We loved Niagra-on-the -Lake, but were greatly disappointed by our experience at this B&B. We have stayed at many B&B's in America and abroad, and although this building is beautiful (and the gardens, as well), it was very unwelcoming. It seems the owners saved most of the first floor space for themselves. You walk in the beautiful front door and have only the foyer and dark dining area for guests. People stood in the foyer and talked, since there were not many places to go. We could hear voices bellowing in our room. The main problem was the poor air conditioning. It was HOT in the loft where the bed was. The air cannot be controlled in the room. When we spoke to the owner about it, he spoke to us in a loud and inhospitable tone. All we needed was for him to empathize and say he'd make the air cooler. Instead, he said that no one else had complained,as his evidence that we were demanding and wrong. We did not stay there our second night and were still charged, It was an expensive decision, but we slept great in a cool room elsewhere. Just for the record, the sheets were stiff and rough, as if they had been starched. So much potential at this place, but it is not quite there.

This review is very inacurate and misleading. These guests complained that most of the main floor was used by the owners when in fact most of the main floor area of the Inn is taken up by a guest room, entrance foyer, the dining room and kitchen. There is nothing wrong with the air conditioning. When these guests arrived in the mid afternoon they opened all of the large windows in their suite (total window area about 28 square feet) and left them open all night. It was a very hot and humid time of year. The next morning when they complained about the temperature we explained that there was no way the airconditioner could keep the room comfortable with all of the windows open. There where 10 other guests in the building that night, 6 of them where also in loft rooms and they all felt the temperature was quite comfortable. Other guests were surprized by the comments made by these people.

“Great location, lovely decor, fine breakfast !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2009

I just recently returned from a short stay at the Allison House Inn in Niagara on the Lake,
Ontario,Canada. It is a lovely place - a re-worked old school of all things.. with a lovely
garden. There are only a few suites and genuinely quiet.
The rooms are immaculately kept.. and although open 2 years you would think it
was opened yesterday!
The breakfast bar featured both cold and hot items which was nice.
Also there is off street parking which is a feature as there is almost none in
NOL without at $7.00 or so fee.

The Pluses: Lovely rooms, convenient to ALL the Shaw theatres- a short walk to
anywhere in NOL. Nice breakfast items.

The Minuses: We stayed there during a "hot spell" as almost all of the rooms are
loft bed arrangements- it was really hot in the sleeping areas even with the ceiling fans
"on" and the air conditioning "on "in the Inn. We had trouble sleeping due to this- as
well as NO blackout shades on the windows for the a.m.- meant that when the
sun came up at 5:30 a.m. we had so much light in the sleeping areas that we
were well awake by 6:00 a.m. - which is not what you want on a vacation outing.
Also again the beds are in "lofts" which is "romantic" however, we heard a lot of
"rumble"from other guests that they would not be back due to all the "stair climbing".
involved. For older guests this meant a bathroom trip down the stairs and out of
the loft bedroom in the middle of the night to the bathroom at least one time and
one told me that this would be a "one time trip " for them. This is a definite problem
for many guests and people should be advised that the bathrooms are NOT
adjoining the bedrooms. This is not obvious on the website.
They do have one suite on the first floor which has no stairs but all the others
there is stair climbing involved . Senior travelers be advised!
I would consider staying there again as it is really close to the Shaw Festival
Theatres and all the restaurants and we just parked our car and walked everywhere
for the short time we were there and at this point we can still DO the stairs!

“Allison House B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2007

My wife and I stayed here for several nights when we visited the Shaw Festival. I can't praise it enough. The building was an old school house which was remodeled by the owners into a first class B&B with baths in each suite. Our room (and I beleive most rooms) was a huge second floor room with a fire place and king size bed on a loft with a conventional stair case to the bed. The room must have had 20 feet ceilings. It is beautifully furnished and extremely clean.

The best thing about the Allison House are the inn keepers. They made us feel welcome and I found them engaging and particularly helpful and knowledgeable about the area. I highly recomend the place and wouldn't consider staying elsewhere.

Breakfast was awesome! It is located in very easy walking distance to all of the Shaw Festival Theatres.
