My Husband and I along with another couple took a 17 day trip to New England and Canada. We carefully chose some bed and breakfast Inns to stay in along our route. We thought it would be a neat experience and, for the most part, it was. Until we got to "Faulty Towers" in Niagara-on-the-Lake. This is a simple home in a simple neighborhood NOT within walking distance of the beautiful town, certainly not for Seniors. In no way could it be described as a typical B&B. When we set the GPS for the address and drove up to the house I could not believe my eyes, surely it was a mistake. When I knocked on the door and asked if this could possibly be "Faulty Towers" (the name alone is misleading), the nice man told me it was. It is obvious why they do not post a picture of the front of the home on line. I let he and his wife know that it was not what we expected, and we would prefer not to stay there. I also mentioned that we had been very careful to be within walking distance of town, and it obviously was not. It did not sway them, we were told that we would be charged if we chose not to stay there. So of course we stayed.
It was a strained stay, feeling like we were intruding on someone's home, or that we were staying with distant relatives. It was very clean, the rooms were comfortable for the most part and the food was good. But, we were asked to remove our shoes at the door, used slippers were offered. We were told to pay in cash, and we were not prepared for this. And to top it off we were told that there were no keys to our room so please don't lock the doors, none of these things are mentioned on the web site. The "inn keepers" need to put everything on the web site and then people would decide if this is the experience they are looking for. Would I recommend this so called B&B? Never!
There are beautiful hotels in the middle of town for just a few dollars more. It put a real damper on our whole experience at Niagara-on-the-lake.
