We stayed only one night at the Abacot Hall during our visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake.
We found out about the B&B from tripadvisor listing, and we selected it among the many B&Bs in the town because of its reasonable price, nice location, and many positive comments on Pauline and Mike, the couple that runs the B&B.
We arrived somewhat late after a long drive from the northern part of Ontario. Initially I was a little concerned about that in terms of coordination with the hosts, but it wasn’t a problem at all as the Abacot Hall had a nice self-check in system with passcode to unlock the front door given in the confirmation email that we received upon booking.
The room we stayed in, the Queen Elizabeth room, was very cozy. My travel partner commented that it reminded her to visiting grandma’s home during school vacation.
We met Pauline and Mike in the morning during the breakfast time. Pauline served the guests while Mike cooked the breakfast in the kitchen adjoining the dining area. We had wonderful conversation with them during and after our breakfast, about life in Canada and in the US (as they split their time between NOTL during the summer and Arizona during the winter).
Pauline also provided us with great suggestions for a day itinerary visiting the wine country. She gave us recommendations on wineries to visit that would give us good sampling of what NOTL area has to offer. We decided to follow the itinerary that she suggested, and we had really good experience. She also recommended their favorite restaurant (next door), the Stone Road Grille. She even tried to call the restaurant to help us checking for dinner reservation; unfortunately the restaurant was still closed at that time. We called again later in the day and were able to find a slot for dinner – it was definitely a great recommendation.
Pauline also told us about the Peach Festival that was held in downtown NOTL the day after. We altered our travel plans a little bit to fit in a visit to the festival, and it was a great experience as well as we got to sample fresh peaches and some wonderful peach treats.
Abacot Hall is nicely located close to downtown NOTL and to some of the wineries. So whether you’re in the area for the theatre or for the wines, this B&B is a nice place to stay.
I will definitely consider staying at the Abacot Hall during my future visits to the area.
