“Excellent stay, looking forward to go back again...”

This is our first trip to NOTL and we made an excellent choice to stay at Abacot Hall, with our wonderful hosts Mike & Pauline. They are such lovely hosts, and we felt right at home throughout the entire stay. Breakfast was brilliant with so a wide array of selection, we were spoilt for choice every morning. We wished we could stay a few more days to explore this beautiful little town. Pauline and Mike helped us plan our trip to the Niagara Falls and nearby winery and restaurants. We couldn't thank them more in any way to make our trip so perfect. We also met the new owners and are confident that they will continue with this lovely place and excellent food & service.

We hope to go back again soon!

We stayed for 2 nights and found out when we arrived that Abacot Hall had been sold and the owners Mike & Pauline were moving on. We got quite a surprise when they introduced us to the new owners Ed & Irene Nicol who were there for training. They are from Scotland originally and are really nice people. Ed cooked a fabulous breakfast and Irene took care of us extremely well in the dining room all under the supervision of Mike & Pauline. They said they intend to continue operating Abacot Hall the same way as Mike & Pauline have done over the past 9 years. They have big shoes to fill but based on what we saw they will have no trouble filling them. We look forward to coming back again next year. So Long Mike & Pauline and good luck Ed & Irene.

“Great place to stay”

We stayed at Abacot Hall for one night in October 2011 which was our first trip to NOTL. We really liked the self check-in system. The inn was cozy and clean and there was plenty of hot water for the shower. It was an easy walk to town and surrounding attractions. Pauline and Mike were terrific hosts and made excellent recommendations about what to see and do. There was a large selection at breakfast that would accommodate any taste. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer!

“Abacot has provided excellent value, hopefully new owners will continue”

Pauline & Mike have provided an excellent value to guests for many years. It is a 24 hour job and they have decided to move on. As you can see from other reviewers, there is an extremely high consistency of very positive guest experiences. This is a reflection of Pauline & Mike's commitment to quality and customer service. Abacot is very clean, furnishings and rooms are regularly updated. Mike is an excellent cook and provides very personalized healthy and fresh breakfast options. Being a small B&B, you are afforded the opportunity to chat with other guests over breakfast.
Pauline is an excellent host and is a great resource for dining recommendations and theatre reviews. As with all places there are a couple of limitations including: the location is on a major road (Mississauga) with few dining/shopping options within close walking distance; the Shaw Theatre is 1 mile away; and parking in the driveway is extremely tight.

Abacot Hall has been an excellent experience, however new owners will need to start from a clean slate and earn a positive reputation from guests starting in 2012.

Hi: Thanks so much for all your wonderful comments. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to welcome guests over the past 9 years. Ed and Irene Nicol, the owners of Abacot Hall for 2012, are committed to providing the same level of hospitality and flexibility that has been the trademark. Ed has been working with Mike in the kitchen in order to provide the full choice menu that our guests have been used to. The recipes will all be passed on. They are a lovely couple and I doubt that anyone will notice the difference next year. Please stay at Abacot Hall in 2012 and see for yourself. One thing that does puzzle me. I saw a review from you 2 days ago that disappeared and I responded to that also. This one is different. Wonder what happened there.
All the best
Pauline and Mike

“Great location, wonderful hosts”

We stayed only one night at the Abacot Hall during our visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

We found out about the B&B from tripadvisor listing, and we selected it among the many B&Bs in the town because of its reasonable price, nice location, and many positive comments on Pauline and Mike, the couple that runs the B&B.

We arrived somewhat late after a long drive from the northern part of Ontario. Initially I was a little concerned about that in terms of coordination with the hosts, but it wasn’t a problem at all as the Abacot Hall had a nice self-check in system with passcode to unlock the front door given in the confirmation email that we received upon booking.

The room we stayed in, the Queen Elizabeth room, was very cozy. My travel partner commented that it reminded her to visiting grandma’s home during school vacation.
We met Pauline and Mike in the morning during the breakfast time. Pauline served the guests while Mike cooked the breakfast in the kitchen adjoining the dining area. We had wonderful conversation with them during and after our breakfast, about life in Canada and in the US (as they split their time between NOTL during the summer and Arizona during the winter).

Pauline also provided us with great suggestions for a day itinerary visiting the wine country. She gave us recommendations on wineries to visit that would give us good sampling of what NOTL area has to offer. We decided to follow the itinerary that she suggested, and we had really good experience. She also recommended their favorite restaurant (next door), the Stone Road Grille. She even tried to call the restaurant to help us checking for dinner reservation; unfortunately the restaurant was still closed at that time. We called again later in the day and were able to find a slot for dinner – it was definitely a great recommendation.

Pauline also told us about the Peach Festival that was held in downtown NOTL the day after. We altered our travel plans a little bit to fit in a visit to the festival, and it was a great experience as well as we got to sample fresh peaches and some wonderful peach treats.

Abacot Hall is nicely located close to downtown NOTL and to some of the wineries. So whether you’re in the area for the theatre or for the wines, this B&B is a nice place to stay.

I will definitely consider staying at the Abacot Hall during my future visits to the area.
