Apart from the location of the Post House Inn, the card left attached to the invoice, and the very comfortable bed, the experience was entirely disappointing given the amount of money that is charged for the coach house suite. This was our honeymoon and we were extremely disappointed!

First, the web site explicitly states that the "Television Is LCD Flat Screen, ... VCR For TV". The TV is small, old tube TV and there was no VCR, nor was the remote for the TV found.

Second, the web site also explicitly states that "Jacuzzi rooms can accommodate a request for our special complementary in room breakfast." We paid an extra $20 for breakfast and my husband had to go and get me a cup of tea because there was none brought to the room. And it was late!

Third, the bathroom is falling apart. The tap on the tub is loose, the wallpaper is coming off, and there is a terrible odor coming from the shower stall. Not to mention that I had to clean stains off the toilet seat and there was no bar of soap. There was a bottle of shampoo in the shower stall that looks like it had been left there from the last guests.

There are holes in the wall above the fireplace where the website shows two nice paintings. The plant on the table was dead or fake. This being our honeymoon and at over $300/night we at least expected the room to have fresh flowers. Other places would have put a bottle of wine in the room.

About 90% of the bed and breakfasts in NOTL offer midweek discounts (Sun-Thurs) and the Post House still charges full price even though they are empty except for one other room. We were hoping that since this was our only honeymoon night and that the website states that honeymoons are your specialty we would have had a more positive and pleasant experience. However, this was not evident during our stay.

We are extremely disappointed in the Post House Inn and will not be back.

We came to the Post House for our honeymoon just a short time ago, and couldn't wait until our 1st anniversary, which by the way we have already booked, so we took a weekend off and came back to Niagara on the Lake. We stayed in Mrs Connell's Boudoir again, which is the room we had on our honeymoon, it is such a beautiful romantic room, with the four post antique bed, it's like a hideaway all on it's own! Barbara, the Innkeeper was so gracious as usual, she serves a wonderful breakfast and great conversation. The first morning we had our breakfast served in our room, it was great, the food was outstanding! We were able to take advantage of the pool and outdoor hot tub this time and it was soo relaxing, it could spend the whole day in it!! The Post House Inn is definitely a place we will be frequenting!!

This was our 2nd time staying here. We had problems the first time but wanted to give it another chance. This time we wanted a romantic get away and paid extra for breakfast in our room the first day and were sold on a "romantic breakfast" in a private dining room by Barbara the second day for $70 extra. We stayed in Mrs. Connel's Boudoir which was lovely. Here are a list of the problems we had:

1. Breakfast appears to be cooked the evening before based on very good smells from the kitchen at about 7 pm. There are no good smells in the morning and quiche was mushy from re-heating. All baked good appear to be re-heated not fresh or store made.

2. Breakfast brought to our room was at 9:30 after guests were served in the dining room. It had sat around in tin foil for some time and wasn't even warm. It came on low-end dinnerware. Did they think we would break the nicer dishes? It cost $20 extra.

3. Breakfast in the private dining room was a joke. It was right beside the kitchen and very noisy. We could hear the dishes being done, conversations of the staff, a dog ran through the room, etc. The food was supposed to be made to order. When we got there we found out pancakes had been pre-made and were sitting around while we finished our fruit. the pancakes were barely warm and had been sitting for some time before we got them. It was a total rip off for the price.

4. The pool was open but was frigidly cold. We asked staff to turn on the heat. It was clear that it would take much longer than a weekend to heat the pool. We just couldn't swim although the weather was perfect for it.

5. Our sink drain was clogged and a handy man had to come and remove the stopper.

6. The pilot lights in the fireplaces were turned off even though the evenings were cool. We could not turn the fireplace on nor could we use candles. So much for ambiance.

Thus, we are a bit confused with the good ratings. We visited other B&B's and asked people staying at them how the food and rooms were. They gave amazing reviews. We even viewed other B&B's and were very pleased with what we saw. Save your money and go somewhere else.

From the elevated four poster bed piled high with pillows to the marble topped jacuzzi built for two, the room was pleasing to both the eye and the soul. The red theme throughout added to the charm and authenticity of the place. The breakfast was complete - starting with an array of teas and coffee, moving to your choice of juice, milk or ice water, then to a fresh fruit plate, followed by the main entree, and finished off with a rich, moist, dense lemon cake. The hostess appeared briefly to welcome us and jump start the conversation, then left with instructions to just ask if we needed anything. The in-house computer with internet access and the exercise room were also welcome additions.

Forgetting Honeymooners Breakfast in Bed

I booked this particular bed and breakfast during our honeymoon based on the great reviews the B&B inkeeper Barbara received. I called and made the reservation directly with Barbara and when I let her know that it was our honeymoon she offered to do breakfast in bed our first morning there (we stayed for 2 nights).

As you can guess from the title of our review we sat in our room from 8:30 am until 10:00 am waiting for a breakfast that never came. When my husband went down to inquire about it Barbara was not there but one of her staff and she did not know anything about it and breakfast was already served to the other guests in the dining room. I was quite upset because I wanted this to be perfect and now we had to go to a restaurant downtown and pay for a breakfast that we should have received since we were staying at a B&B. Upon coming back to our room later that day we had a Happy Anniversary card on our bed with some costco chocolates. This would have been appreciated if in fact it was our Anniversary, Barbara did not remember my conversation with her about it being our Honeymoon. For the rest of the day we felt like we were being avoided. A nice gesture would have been to re-imburse us for the money we had to spend on buying our own breakfast. Upon check-out we did not receive an apology, we were told to enjoy the chocolates, our invoice that was pre-paid that we signed clearly had a breakfast in bed notation on it.

In any case we will not be staying at the Post House Inn again. I do not recommend this place to any younger couples in their late 20's or 30's because you will be ignored as Barbara chooses to chat up the older couples that are visiting the B&B.

Things I do recommend is the Ginger Restaurant, Terrior La Cachette Restaurant at the Strewn Winery, please see a play at the Shaw Theatre they are just wonderful, and if you like history go to Fort George and wait to see the Musket demonstration.

  • Liked — The home was close to downtown but then again everything is close to downtown
  • Disliked — Not being treated equally as the other guests
