“Nice enough...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed 2 nights in the 2 bed 'cottage'. The property was cute, the room was clean, breakfast was OK - as was the spa. FREE WiFi and the roses @ turndown were a nice touch. The fan noise mentioned in the room description is pretty bad in the afternoon....the beds shook like a plane was taking off and it was quite loud. The staff tried their best...or at least most of them did. Irmi gave a lovely massage, Robert was very nice @ front desk and Allison who helped via email to make arrangements was great! The breakfast staff were not as pleasant as they could be. Our shower was missing 1 sliding glass door so it was not a warm bathing experience and it really wasn't nice to walk past a huge dumpster to and from our room. Our biggest concern: we did not appreciate being granted a 'late check-out' to match the ending times of our spa treatments only to be told that only gave us 1 extra hour until 12 noon and we must vacate. Flexibility considering how much we spent on the package and spa services would have been appreciated. That surely was a sour end to relatively nice weekend.

“Great place to stay for a romantic weekend away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stayed here last night and we had a wonderful time! The staff was really nice and greeted us every time we passed by the reception. Check in was very easy and hassle-free. The hotel is quaint and has a kind of personalised feel to it compared to other large, chain hotels. I love the fireplace where you can sit on the sofa and read a book. There is a restaurant downstairs which had a fireplace. The continental breakfast buffet was alright. No hot foods, only cereal, fruits and bread but the various pasteries they had were delicious. The room was a bit small but very comfortable, especially the soft down blankets!

They had a gym but only accessible from the outside. The pool and hot tub was closed for the winter and that's outdoors too. We especially chose this hotel becuase it was right by the lake and you can take a romantic stroll there. Overall, we loved out stay here and would recommend it to anyone visiting niagara-on-the-lake.

Room Tip: I think they're doing some renovations on the second floor. Our room on the third floor (room 20...

“NOT EVENH CLOSE”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Spent two days over New Year's with children and grandchildren at the Oban .
We went for dinner on New Year's Eve -- we had reservations -- we were told
that "our table" in the dining room was set for one child and not three and could not be changed -- so we ate in the bar area while the table sat empty -- really classy .
We received a free bottle of wine for their mistake .
The food was good but not the Oban of old -- I have been going there for 30 plus years
and the fare was just not there .
The New Year's Day brunch was worse -- service was glacial -- two plus hours before we could get out of there and the rather bland Eggs Benedict were barely warm .
The manager was not around when we were leaving so I wrote her an e-mail expressing our
disappointment -- 3 weeks have passed and no response from her .
Maybe she guessed that we won't be back .

Dear EmilP,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your informative feedback regarding your recent 2-night stay at our Inn with your family celebrating New Year's Eve.

Please accept my personal apology for not formally introducing myself upon your arrival for dinner New Year's Eve as I personally attended to preparing your table for your evening. We acknowledge our error in communicating the correct number of guests in your party with your first dining experience with us. For the remainder of your stay, our team made every effort to ensure your table was prepared for your family's arrival.

For New Year's Day Brunch we accept full responsibility for the unacceptable delay in service and quality of our menu offering. As soon as this matter was brought to my attention, I personally provided an alternative for your grandchildren and provided all additional requests with our compliments. Again, we apologize if this gesture was not an acceptable resolution. Please let us know what we could have improved.

Please feel free to email me again as I did not receive any previous correspondance from you. As with our ongoing communication in planning your visit, I can assure a response will follow.

We sincerely value your patronage and hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back.

At your service,
Celia Liu

“Nice place, but the Shaw Club is still #1.”

My partner and I stayed here for one night as a quick getaway. The staff, to be frank, weren't the warmest. The room, although VERY small, was pretty nice. The bed was plush and we had an amazing night's sleep. There was a nice terrace off the room that I'm sure would be a great place to read a book during warmer months. The location is a little out of the way (i.e. not in town), but close to the lake with nice views. The breakfast is a nice bonus, but no hot options are on offer, and the holes created in spread weren't quickly replenished.

Located two blocks from downtown, we offer a variety of guestroom types and are in fact in the process of upgrading all of our washrooms, extending some of our cosier deluxe queen guestrooms and adding additional balconies for guests to enjoy.

Thank you for your feedback regarding our complimentary continental breakfast offering. We will definitely continue to work on improving this offering.

We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back!

“Exceeded my expectation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We made a reservation over the phone for a Slip & Spa package with Oban Inn in January 2012. Shortly after the reservation, they called us back to apologize for the incorrect price on one of websites which was corrected right away and they still offered to honour the price to us which was agreed upon over the phone reservation. I am very pleased with the manager's offer and arrangement.

When we arrived, the reception is very welcoming and to our surprise the room is ready! We booked the 55 mins massage treatment and our therapist (Irmi) is very professional and make sure we felt very relaxing but the treatment still work on some soar areas.

Dinner service was great, we like the decor and the cozy environment. Food is even better than most of the chain fine dinner restaurants in GTA.

We stayed at the deluxe king room, the size is a bit small compare to chain hotels but they tried to put together a lot fine details to the room like leather chairs, Bose hifi, a lot of up to date magazines in the room & the bathroom. We also liked the hardwood flooring in the room with a big carpet near the bed area, it really felt like staying at an elegant master bedroom at a fancy house! Beddings, duvet & pillows are very comfortable, too. They also make our bed while we are at dinner and left us with a rose & weather note for the next day. The room is also extremely clean and no smell at all.

This overall service and experiences made us felt like we are at a 5 star cruise!! We have been to a lot of cruises & hotels around the world (celebrity cruise, Paris, London, Whistler, Caribbean, etc.) and this stay exceeded our expectation and is compatible to other 5 stars hotels with very attentive caring to our needs.

Several minor improvement points are the spa waiting lounge is a bit cold, there was a heater but the electric outlet is not working. Also, the shower faucet control is not working well, either too hot or just warm.

We will definitely come back for the spa & the Inn and hope the services are still keep at this high standard when we return!

Dear VincentY199,

What a fabulous review covering all aspects of our Inn and your stay! Thank you for taking the time to share your comments and overall experience with us during your recent stay.

We are happy that we were able to accommodate your request for our Sip, Spa and Dine package at the price provided online and recognize our error which we promptly corrected.

Thank you for the personal recognition of one of our registered massage therapists and generous appreciation of our on-site restaurant. Your positive reinforcement is appreciated.

The have replaced the fuse which caused the electrical outlet not to work and continue to review the shower/heating in our spa. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.

We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back soon!

All the best for 2012!
