The Danner house is a historic home perched on the edge of the Niagara River. The Niagara Parkway (which runs along the edge of the River) is very popular in the warmer months with cyclists and joggers who flock to the region for the beautiful views and historic sights.
The Danner House has been around since 1799 and has a long history as one of the oldest homes on the Parkway. The House contrasts greatly among the various modern estates along the Parkway.
Our family booked the Danner House in late September of 2007 to lodge our visiting family and friends from South Korea for 5 nights. The owners of the property couldn't have been more hospitable and were very helpful even though our guests could not communicate in English.
The included breakfast was simply out of this world, and every morning was complete with a minimum of one freshly baked delicacy. You will not find a better breakfast anywhere, but this is only part of what makes a stay at the Danner House so great.
The three bedrooms are each unique but share common characteristics. Each features furniture and appointments which match the age and character of the house. The owners have done an amazing job of stocking the house with beautiful antiques. There are two washrooms outside the bedrooms that are connected by a hallway. The facilities were clean and had adequate space to get ready in the morning.
On the ground floor, there is a large dining room with sitting area and wood burning fireplace, as well as a salon with cable television.
I cannot comment on what a stay would be like if you were to rent out only one room, but I can assume it would be great albeit with less privacy. Our guests had the run of the entire house and felt at home during the length of their stay. They truly received an authentic Canadan experience from the turn of the Century.
In the warmer months there is also a pool behind the house, and I highly suggest morning walks along the river. The location is also convenient for visiting the Falls and Casino (15 minutes) and Legends on the Niagara Golf Course (5 minutes).
To wrap up this long review, I will end by saying that this is a truly unique and authentic property. A lodging find such as this is a true gem and I highly recommend a stay here if you value charm, romance and peace in a natural and historic setting.
