My boyfriend and I come to Niagara Falls once a season for a getaway close to home. We always try someplace different to discover and we chose Crown Plaza looking for a mostly indoor adventure. There was plenty to do around the hotel connected to Casino Niagara, Indoor Water Park, Hard Rock Cafe/ Club, Rainforest Cafe, Starbucks, Hershey's, gift stores, arcade and MGM that we found exceptional considering the cold snowy weather. Though many upsides to the location, there were many many downfalls to the service especially at the hotel's restaurant. Niagara Falls is an expensive city. Prices on everything is marked up which is expected in a tourist destination and not to mention the sneaky Destination Marketing Fee or Promotional Fee they call it, which is another 3%.
At first we had some confusion checking in which was irritating. We had called earlier in the week to ask a few questions about any deposits on the room when paying cash. They told us no because we were booking it online on my credit card. Apparently the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing at this hotel and it ended up cutting into our spending cash, so they increased the view of our already supposed to be, superior falls view, which was okay.
The next morning at the hotel's restaurant Massimo Capra's, we felt like second class citizens when our waiter kept selling their overpriced buffet. We ordered a-la-carte, The Canadian, which was a massive continental platter with tons of fruit orange juice and coffee included. It was already much cheaper and so much food and variety we didn't want the buffet. We were just trying to stay close to the $27.50 a morning breakfast for two meal card, but apparently thats not acceptable because the same happened the next morning :( . Im not sure if it was our unsatisfied faces, but our waiters switched to who seemed to be the only waiter with hospitality and a brain. She was lovely.
Dinner was a joke. The hotel gave us a $50 meal card which I thought might be enough for at least two of the smallest entrees but was really only enough for one person. Insulting. You pay for a meal package expecting it to cover at least the minimum, they force you to pay extra and then they slap you in the face after with their promotional fee, because were supposed to pay to bring more tourists, when were already spending thousands of dollars on a weekend in this city.
