My boyfriend surprised me with an overnight stay to celebrate a romantic Valentine's Day week-end. This was our first time at Stage West so all we had to go by were a few reviews and the prior experience of some close friends that had been to a few shows. Let me say that although we are not "high maintenance" travelers (nor could you refer to us as "snooty"), we were on the very same page with our perspective opinions about our experience.
We both thought the dinner buffet not only lacked selection but the food was very bland and similar to that of dinner selections we've had in Cuba The hot dishes like the cauliflower with cheese, scalloped potatoes and some sort of mini meatloaf was cold and lacked seasoning. Both of us handed a plate to our server with 3/4 of food still left on it. We've tasted better food at stag and does. The desert buffet however was very tasty and showed a nice selection of various sweets. By the way, we cannot comment on breakfast as we left the hotel right after checking out.
(We have heard so many wonderful reviews about "Motown Gold" and were really looking forward to also enjoying a nice show). The production "All Shook Up" played right after our "supper". The show is loosely based on the life of Elvis Presley. Let's put it this way, we've been more entertained at our kids high school productions. Elvis was probably doing back flips in his grave if he could hear the attempts which were made by the main character trying to sing like the "King". The play was longer than it should have been and we both would have left at intermission had we known that the play didn't get any more interesting in the second half.
The hotel itself is very nice and the rooms are clean and spacious. The bed was very comfortable but we found it cold even though we "turned up the heat". Our room was on the 9th floor. There was ALWAYS a line up for the 3 small elevators so on many occasions we used the stairs instead of waiting 15-20 minutes for the elevator.
It may appear by reading this review that we had a bad experience and did not enjoy ourselves but this is not the case. This is just an honest opinion of our stay. We still managed to have a great week-end sharing a few good laughs and enjoying each others company.
