“The Good & The Bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2011

Conveniently located. Clean overall. Friendly staff. We stayed in a "suite" with a King size bed. There were stains and hair on the sheets when we took off the blanket. It looked like the hair got caught in the wash. Still, it was visible and shouldn't have been there. The bathroom was clean but had this fake marble plastic that looks aged and uninviting. The lighting was horrible. They need brilliant overhead lighting centrally located. The furniture in the sitting room had definitely seen better days. Old, scratched, scraped and dated. The bedroom was okay aside from the sheets. The only other criticism about the room is there is an oversized desk chair to the desk that does not fit and takes up space unnecessarily. I think the motel has promise and should reinvest money into the rooms to make it more inviting for guests. The bright white florescent bulbs are unncessary. Warmer lighting is much better. The breakfast was hot and okay. There is a diner that's about a one minute walk from the hotel if you want something better.

“Only thing good was the breakfast which was OK”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

The moment I walked into the hotel I knew I wasn't going to like it.
Check in took 15 -20 minutes - there was only one person ahead of me and 4 people behind the desk... When I did get served... she was too busy answering the phone than to deal with me. (Also her eye shadow did nothing for me..)

The fire place was a nice touch, but the smell in the hotel was less than desireable- the farther into the hotel you got the worse the smell. Lighting both in the halls and in the rooms was poor. (my son's hockey equipment couldn't even mask the smell)

Our heater had no control knobs and you couldn't tell which way to turn it for heat. When we got there it was blowing cold air. The window sill was broken.. and the broken pieces where just sitting there. Fridge and mircrowave were great to have... Overall the place felt dirty and was in some of the corners..

Only one bottle of shampoo - no conditioner for 4 people. when we called to ask staff for more - they were rude... and hung up after our first question.. yes we had more than one.

Location was great near the highway... but that fact there was an xxx massage parlor right out the front door was a big turnoff.

Beds were uncomfortable, couldn't sleep very well.

I did like the fact that they head our group more or less together in the hotel... and not spread out.

Overall I would not go back... I think I could spend my money better on a hotel I felt safe and comfortable in.

We are very surprised with your review, but thank you all the same for your feedback.

Here at the Travelodge in London, we never have 4 Front Desk agents working at the same time. We only have 2 check-in computers, so I'm not sure if you were seeing Front Desk agents behind the desk, or Housekeeping leaving for the day. We are also unaware of any check-in that took 15-20 minutes and if the problem had been addressed at check-in, we most definatly would have offered you some type of compensation for your unnecessary check-in wait time.

As for some type of smell you apparently smelt in the hallways, we have never recieved this type of complaint before, and as a staff member here, have never smelt any type of "odd" smell within the common areas of the hotel. I have no idea what you could have been smelling.

As for the heater, the heater is not controlled by the system that is by the window. There is a thermostat on the far side of the room beside the bed which controls heating/cooling. This would have been explained to you if Front Desk has been contacted.

Our standard rooms do not have hair conditioner in them. We provide shampoo and soap, and extra hygenic supplies can be provided for your convience when contacting Front Desk.

As for the massage parlor, we have no control over what businesses are located around us. We have no problems with parlor and they do not disturb our guests in anyway. We have been located here over 20 years, so if a massage parlor was built across the street from us 5 years ago, that's not of our control...

We hope you have better luck at a more expensive hotel that you feel safe in, that are located all within about a 5minute walk from us. Best of luck.

“Good basic hotel with friendly staff and a great breakfast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2010

This location is a bit hidden from the main road. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic but clean. The best part is the breakfast. You get a full hot breakfast in the morning. The hot items include eggs, bacon and pancakes. They also have toast, muffins and cereal. This hotel is great for a business traveler but does not have any amenties for a long term stay. There is no pool, restaurant, room service or fitness equipment.

“Comfortable, Friendly & Affordable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2009

I just wanted to tell you how impressed we were with your facility. My daughter I had travelled from Windsor to London to attend a concert. Rather than travel back home late at night we wanted to stay someplace affordable comfortable. Heather was the front desk attendant when we arrived, and when we left Thursday. She was very friendly helpful, giving us instructions to downtown. The room assigned to us was amazing. Clean, attractive decor, and all the comforts of home. The complimentary hot breakfast was delicious served, again, by a friendly staff member. I will certainly recommend your facility to my friends, and will definitely book a stay with you again the next time I have to travel.

“Seedy and Depressing!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2009

I stayed at the Travelodge with several collegues for a business trip. We were supposed to stay all week, but decided that the conditions at the hotel were less than satisfactory and left after two days.

I am shocked to see that other travellers have given this hotel such high ratings on Trip Advisor, as I cannot remember when I have stayed in such a miserable place.

First of all, there is a "massage parlour" in the same parking lot as the hotel. The rooms stink of stale smoke, and could be alot cleaner! The decor is downright depressing...last updated in the 80's with orange patterned bed spreads and blue carpets! There was some kind of flithy splash above my bed that looked a little like blood or red wine.

I felt very uncomfortable in this hotel and felt that I had to wear socks the entire time, and sleep head to toe in clothes.

The one positive thing I can say about this hotel is that the hotel staff was very pleasant.

This hotel need an entire makeover to be up to date with today's standards.

  • Liked — The front desk staff
  • Disliked — The depressing, outdated rooms

We always are interested in receiving feedback from our customers regarding their stay at our hotel. I will say that we were surprised with your comments, as we have done extensive renovations during the past year, including all new bedroom and hallway carpeting and replaced all our bedspreads and drapes within the last six months. Our hotel has been 100% smoke free for the past two years and we are dedicated to ensuring that all of our rooms are maintained to a "smoke free" condition.

With regards to your comment on the "massage parlour" near the hotel, it is unfortunate that we can't always pick our neighbours and if they function within the laws and bylaws of our city, we have no control as to who runs an establishment next to our business.

I wish you had taken the time to speak to us during your stay so that we could have tried to rectify your concerns and provided you with the high level of accommodation that our guests usually enjoy at our hotel as you well can see from the many excellent reviews from guests who stayed with us. We hope that you will give us an opportunity to host you again and provide you with the accommodation that you require.
