I'm writing this review from the standpoint of a business trip, and my experiences with other business type hotels. I've travelled quite a bit over the last 2 years, and usually prefer to stay in Starwood properties, but find myself in Hilton hotels every now and then, if a location doesn't have a Starwood or if we perceive the Hilton to be of better quality.
Thus, this review is based on contrasting this hotel to other hotels from a business trip standpoint.
The hotel is aged, and its evident from walking through the halls or certain part of the hotel room. And although it shouldn't impact your stay, it's something you notice right away, given the multi-billion dollar renovation budgets that these corporate conglomerates usually spend updating their hotels. Clearly, money has not been spent on this hotel.
Of course, I still enjoyed my stay. The staff is Hilton quality, the service, from Valet to room service is top notch. The price was also right, which is good when travelling on business, as keeping costs down is a must.
But, the good part are what the current staff can control. i.e. good service, friendly receptions, quick valet, quick room service, clean rooms.
What they should be able to control but they can't is the hard assets. My biggest ped peave with hotels and especially older hotels is two fold. The wall mounted heating/cooling system and the water pressure. These are hard assets that should be top of mind for hotel properties. This is where the Hilton in London fails miserably. The wall mounted unit is very old, and loud. You can't sleep with it on. Impossible. So your choices in the winter are to double up on blankets and turn off, or don't sleep.
The second easiest fix here is the water pressure. This was the worst I have ever experienced. My colleague thoughtso as well. I thought it mind have been me, but nope. Its bad. She had to triple rinse her hair.
Otherwise, this hotel is good. But its aged and in serious need of some fixes. I've stayed in older hotels, but these older hotels are usually upkept a little better than this place. Hopefully, its on a corporate Hilton hotel list requiring renovations.
There was probably a reason why we were able to book same day at significant discount to competing hotels.
Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room if available
