“Stayed in Downtown Kingston for Saturday Night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My wife and I decided to stay downtown for a Saturday night and enjoy the many shops and sights that our hometown has to offer. We had made reservations a day before at the Confederation Place Hotel and contrary to the reviews I read we found it to be very nice and affordable. The hotel is located on Ontario Street and the room we had on the 6th floor looked out over Lake Ontario with a nice view of the Royal Military College and Confederation Basin. The room itself was clean and modern, perhaps recently renovated, with a comfy king bed, 37 inch flat screen TV, microwave, fridge (bonus) and coffee maker. The carpeting in the room and halls seemed to be rather new and there was no shortage of hot water. We also enjoyed a complimentary continental breakfast which offered plenty for us. The parking was nice in a heated underground lot and we were told upfront that it is $15 to park which was no problem, the convenience was worth it. This hotel is in a great location downtown offering plenty of shops, bars and restaurants all in walking distance.

“Old hotel with small rooms pay the extra $20 and stay somewhere else!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stopped in Kingston overnight and chose this hotel due to locatiion. It was $105 plus $15 parking. Our room was very small with the old fashioned blow heater that didn't do a good job. The room was VERY small with one uncomfortable chair. Room on a non smoking floor smelled like smoke. Bed wasn't made up properly, tub was dirty and rusty, had to kill a giant spider in the morning by the coffee maker (Timmy's it is!) horrible place - won't be back.

“Adequate hotel and very good position”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I was a little worried before going before there were a lot of bad reviews because the lift was out of order. Luckily in the second half of September the problem was solved at least one lift was working correctly.
Anyway, we had a problem because our confirmation was not confirmed, but there were plenty of free romms and so we had to pay the regular fare for the room and ask later the reimbursement and the compensation to the site we used to book the hotel (and we received this after a certain time of waiting).
The staff was really friendly concerning this and for all other things during our stay.
Yes, the hotel is quite old fashioned and a refurbishment would be nice but considering the price and the excellent position it is not bad. Moreover, the 1000 thousand tour leaves from just 5 minutes walking from the hotel.
Our room was in a high floor with the lake view so we had a very beautiful view.
There are a lot of choice concerning the possibilities of dining in the surrounding area.
The breakfast was not exceptional but adequate.

“Everything was cold.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

This property has recently been updated. AKA new paint/ wall paper/ counters and tile. Nothing too fancy.

Everything was cold from the time we checked in. We made our way up to the room which had the heat off. It was so cold the batteries in the remote were frozen. The guy from the desk brought a new remote up and was all the remotes arent working because its so cold! (Heres an idea: Dont be so cheap and turn the heat on)! The furniture was so cold we stood insted of sitting. The heater had to be on the hottest heat setting and lowest fan setting to even blow warm up. If you turned the fan up it blew cold air. The tolilet seat was litterly freezing when I went to the washroom.

We left the heat on all night and it barely warmed up to a bareable level. I slept with my slippers on and pulled the blanket off the extra bed.

The in room movies werent functioning either.

Breakfast was ok. The coffee was cold. However the nice short haired blonde women was very kind.

The lid of the ice bucket had a ring of gunk underneath it! Super gross. Also a kids bracelet had been broken under the bed and dresser and there was beads everywhere. A housekeeper should have noticted that. I did.

The water took forever to reach a warm temp. When it did it wouldant stay warm, it flipped between luke warm and hot.

Check out was good! Andrew was very nice and thanked us for visiting and was quick compared to the guy who checked us in and was rude about how we booked." You musta booked through expedia to get something this cheap" He was the desk supervisor. DO NOT CALL ME CHEAP IN FRONT OF STRANGERS. OR TALK ABOUT HOW I GOT MY RATE.

The warmest part of the hotel was the underground parking at 11 degrees. Our room was never that warm.

We only needed a bed to stay in and a spot to shower this served its purpose. We used hotels 1 to book our room and it was 1/4 of what the hotels website was stateing.

Do not pay full price its not worth it.

Room Tip: Leave your curtains open to let the sunlight in and warm the room. Otherwise you will freeze.

“Be Careful”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

I got a rate that I thought was great, then I saw the room or maybe it was a closet , at that is what felt like. I went to the front several times to complain about the lack of internet connect. I was that they never had a problem in that room with the wireless connection. I finally gave up complaining .I got up at 5:00 to try the internet , still the same problem. I paid the bill not paying attention , they added for $15.00 parking that I was never told I was going to be charged.

Room Tip: ask questions
