My friend and I stayed here in Feb 2011 to attend a 4 day review course in the connecting Hamilton Conference Centre since there was a group discount. I was wary from the Tripadvisor reviews, but ended up being pleasantly surprised.
ROOMS: We loved our room. Size-wise, it was fairly standard, but we found the beds/duvets wonderfully plushy and loved the contemporary upgrades in the bathrooms. We spent 2 comfortable evenings in, happily studying and watching movies - which I think speaks to the quality of our room. (My only caveat is that one person did experience bed bugs. Their room was changed right away with no further issues. There were approximately 100+ people with us, and this was the only complaint I heard about.)
SERVICE: Sheraton staff were affable, eager to please and professional. We had smooth service from check in, luggage holding, to getting us to the airport in one piece. There is a nice area upstairs with 10 or so new computers + printers for business use. Here, the internet is free whereas in-room access is $10 per day.
FOOD: The food was great. If you aren't venturing far, you will not be underfed. We ordered room service once - the delivery was prompt, the portions generous, and the food piping hot and delicious. There are two restaurants peering over the lobby: Chagall's was like an upscale Earl's and the lounge area serves casual bar-like food, but both were enjoyable and had great ambience.
LOCATION: We had to take a taxi from the airport since we needed to be downtown. It was a $15 ride. The attached mall gave us easy access to fast food, Starbucks, and a smattering of clothing franchises to pick up any items you might need. I would not consider it an thrilling shopping experience, but it was convenient. We explored about 15 blocks west of the Sheraton - some areas were quiet, there were people going about their business and maybe a couple homeless people, but never felt endangered.
Overall, I was pleased with this hotel. In fact, it exceeded my expectations because they have introduced increasingly contemporary stylings to a fairly traditional brand. I would be more than happy to return.
