“Really a Holiday Inn?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Short answer, not worth staying at. Both Tripadvisor AND google shows this as a Holiday Inn, but during my visit this summer, they were listed as newly taken over and called the Burlington Convention Center. They are definitely not meeting the standards of the Holiday Inn Brand (IMHO)

Truth in advertising?
The website is http://www.alloro.ca. No reference to Holiday Inn on the site and I was unable to find this hotel on Holiday Inn's website. When I arrived, a note indicated that the hotel was being renovated and under new ownership.

Rooms: Appeared clean, but old. Much of the hotel appeared to be a page from the 1970's including the open atrium with green carpeting. Air conditioning did not work in the room I was given (middle of summer) and took over two hours to get a replacement.

Management: Not very accommodating and took many calls to get a room change. Definitely not customer friendly and seemingly more interested in making a buck than customer satisfaction.

Location: As seen from the map, a bit far from downtown Toronto. Very few restaurants nearby.

Room Tip: Try asking for a renovated room. Maybe that will help?

Thank you for reviewing our property and letting us know about your experience. I understand that you were under the impression that you were staying at a Holiday Inn and effective July 12th we had a name change to the Burlington Hotel & Conference Centre. We are in the process of upgrading and improving all our bedrooms with new carpet, new vinyl, lightfixtures, linens, mirrors and pictures. Our lobby, ballrooms and restaurant, Alloro, have already been improved and so now we are working on the hallways and guest bedrooms. We have an Alloro website as this is our restaurant on site and with our name change you will not be able to find the Holiday Inn name on this website. I do apologize for the misunderstading of our name change during this process and can assure you that when you search in Google for the Holiday Inn Burlington, it shows us as the Burlington Hotel and Conference Centre.

I am not sure where it was shwon that we are close to Toronto as we are listed to be halfway between Toronto and Niagara Falls, we are approximately 45 minutes from downtown Toronto as well as Niagara Falls. I do apologize for this miscommunication also with the restaurants in the area. We do have 6 restaurants right across the street from us and they are definitely within walking distance to the hotel.

Once again we appreciate your feedback and hope that you will come visit us again with our new look.

“Desk staff was horrible and fraudulently ran my credit card”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2011

I have stayed in this hotel before and always had great experiences, sadly today was the polar opposite. Initially the visit started off great and the desk staff got me checked in and upgraded (it's great being a Platinum Priority Club member) quickly and easily. It wasn't until several hours later while checking my credit card online that I noticed a several hundred dollar charge to my account from the hotel that shouldn't have been there as this was a free points night. When I called down to the front desk I was hung up on while the person was "getting a manager". After deciding to go down and deal with the issue in person, it was only after about 15 minutes and a threat to call the police that the on duty manager finally tried to actually fix the problem. After about 45 minutes of waiting and the on duty manager refusing multiple times to contact the actual manager of the hotel the on duty manager was able to make a bit of progress in reversing the fraudulent charges. At no time did anyone apologize for the issue or try to do anything to make the situation any better. I ended up having to contact my bank directly to get the charges taken care of. I still haven't heard from the Hotel Manager and the desk staff was giggle through the entire ordeal. I can say that this stay has definitely soured my feelings towards an otherwise outstanding hotel. I will be asking to speak with the Hotel Manager in the morning when I check out and hopefully they will do something to fix this situation before I give up on this facility going forward.

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at our hotel. I would like to apologize for the misunderstanding you may have had with your credit card at check in. When checking into our hotel and when you give us your credit card, it is used as deposit for any incidentals or costs you may occur during your stay, even if your night is complimentary. Due to your concerns, it has come to my attention that our deposit policy, which is the same for all our guests at check in, may need some more explanation at check in. We want to reassure all guests that the security and privacy of your credit card is kept confidential and that we have strong accounting procedures in place so that their cannot be any fraudulant activity on any credit cards. I would also like to explain that when a credit card is given to us at check in, it is only authorized and not charged until you check out. The authorization process places a hold, for a certain amount that is requested, and then released back to the guest when the authorization drops or when the card is settled. Once again I do apologize for the misunderstaning you had with your credit card and I can assure you that we do not have any fruadulant activity at this hotel at all. I am glad to hear that our Manager on Duty was able to clear up the situtaiton for you and that your situation was taken very seriously.

“Nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2011

All the staff we met were friendly, especially James who was very helpful. We ate in the restaurant, blackened salmon, a seafood pasta dish and 2 children's meals. Everything was delicious and the quantity was right. We couldn't quite understand why they had vouchers for other restaurants and promote that they are near popular restaurants considering that their food is as good as we experienced. The double bed was a bit cozy for 2 adults. The pool is really deep. It would be nice if at some point they could get changing rooms right next to the pool. Overall it was a nice stay.

“Above Average - 3.5* At Best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2011

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times, usually on weekdays. The last experience was good, but interesting as I noticed a number of small problems this visit. I am not a picky person so some of 'problems' are just things that i happened to notice this time around. First problem, the toilet didn't flush, called front desk and maintenance came and fixed it all within a 20 minute span first checking out the problem, then comming to fix it after getting the necessary part. Second, the pipe under the sink was leaking, just a little dripping, but enough that it was noticeable. Third, the hot tub had a thin film above the water, a sign that it probably hadn't been cleaned recently. That was kind of gross to see, as the mixture of the stagnent water & high temperature probably wasn't as hygenic as it should have been (prime bacteria breeding area). Also, there were no towels available for the pool or hot tub at around 10:30 PM. I am aware the pool closing time is at 11 PM, but I do not understand why there were no towels available when we were able to get them on past stays. My boyfriend went to ask the front desk and they said that there were none so he went back to the room and brought one of our shower towels. Also, every room we have stayed in prior to this one had heated bathroom floors, this room did not. Aside from that, just little small things such as cracked and flaking paint on the bottom of the bathroom door, water stains on the ceiling in some of the rooms we have stayed in, slight peeling of the wall paper at some corners, and the decor is becoming a little outdated. Good things are that the service is impecable, staff is very friendly and welcoming, front desk picks up calls in less than 4 rings, free National Post on the door every morning, housekeeping is very prompt and also comes when requested, very close to the highway, pool is quite large, and free wi-fi & parking.

Thank you for taking the time to fill out a survey about the Holiday Inn Burlington, it is important to us that our guests are satisfied and with the information you have provided us we can improve our product and sevice. I do apologize that the hot tub did not seem clean during your stay as we do empty it weekly and refill it every thursday night to avoid any kind of film or bacteria in our hot tub. I would also like to apologize for not having enough pool towels out as we do try to keep enough available for our guests however it seems that we did not put out enough for you to use. Thank you for you kind comments regarding our staff as we do try to give all our guests the best service possible and they appreciate these positive comments. Thank you
