“Fabulous Atmosphere-Excellent Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

Went to the OCAA Volleyball Championships in Belleville and booked the Clarion for a 2 nights stay. Cost of $80 (with CAA) per night. No room numbers-rooms had names instead and ours, the King Tut room lived up to his name--clean, well kept, felt like we were thrown back to Egyptian times (Royalty). Staff were very courteous and helpful.
Used the workout room (called Hastings). Only one person in the room at any one time-excellent idea. Did not get a chance to enjoy downtown Belleville (eg. Farmer's Market 50 yards away), but felt very safe and comfortable in the surroundings. Unfortunately, we won't get to Belleville in the near future, but if we did we would certainly stay at the Clarion and request a romantically themed room-- What a great hotel!

“Neat old place. I recommend if you want something a little funky”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2011

Stayed here w/ my buddy and his gramma. There is a bar around the corner w/ ironically a southwest U.S. theme. We got pretty hammered and stumbled back for a nice slumber. Couldn't say if it was quiet or not, but the room was cool and breakfast was good.

“Cool old Hotel, exactly what I was hoping for!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2011

Initially, when searching for a hotel in the Belleville area, what had caught my eye about this hotel was the reasonable price and location. When I looked at their website and realized that it was actually an old hotel built in1895 rather than another 'cookie cutter chain hotel' I had to book it. I was not disappointed. Formerly called "Quinte Hotel", simply walking into the lobby is quite an experience. One can almost feel the presence of the travellers and guests who have passed through its doors over the past 100 years. The front staff were very helpful and seemed to have a real fondness and interest in the old hotel. The rooms are large, very interestingly renovated, an electric mix between old and new, and and kept very clean. (A number of people have commented regarding stains on the carpets, lifting tiles etc. Guess what? Just because a carpet has a couple of irremovable stains does not mean that the carpets are dirty.) I could have spent hours wandering around the place, simply exploring the old architecture. A refined boutique hotel this may not be, but for those of you who don't mind a bit of shabbiness, enjoy history, turn of the last century architecture, reasonable price, helpful staff in an ideal location, this is the place for you. I can't wait to check it out in the summer.

“Worst Hotel Ever!!!”

We booked this room because we had business in Belleville. We checked into the Belleville Clarion believing it was a quaint boutique hotel in the downtown. This can't be farther from the truth. It is the worst hotel I have ever seen! We checked in, took one look at the rooms and quickly checked out. I would have slept in my car before spending the night in this hotel!

“Great outdoor night photo begins a complete misrepresentation of this shabby old property!”

I had stayed in restored, in-town boutique hotels previously with great results. This turned out to be a disappointment!!! Had been on the road for several days with a colleague and we just decided to deal with it as we had already arranged to meet a client at this property. The "restoration" is far from new and appeared to be done by amateurs on a tight budget. Couple this with filthy carpets, rum down bathrooms and floors that were dangerously out of level and you understand my disappointment. As I was responsible for the booking of both rooms, I was left quite embarrassed. I almost always use recognized chains as I feel there is a standard to be met in terms of quality, cleanliness and price. An employee even shared with me how the property suffered from mo heat/ac in the lobby since June! I now question staying in any of the affiliates of this chain. Last year I was 60 nights in hotels, this year over 30. I usually book multiple rooms at a time and my stay here indicates that I still have a lot to learn!!! Also very disappointed st reviews I read about third floor being so much better than the second floor where our rooms were located!!!
