I had a wonderful stay at the Schaferhof Bed and Breakfast. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable, the surroundings are beautiful and rural (tucked in the midst of sprawling vineyards) and the hospitality was warm and welcoming.
After calling to make a reservation by phone, I realized that when I tried to program my Garmin GPS unit to find the address, it could not be found. Be sure to ask for directions when you make your reservation.
The proprietors, Lore and Dieter Schafer, were very gracious and were happy to hang out and talk about the area with me. In the morning, the breakfast was delicious and bountiful. I enjoyed a long, enjoyable breakfast along with the two couples who had also spent the night there. Lore is a great cook!
The only negatives I can think of were only minor. During the time of year I was there (late summer), there was a sound like that of hunters firing their guns in the distance. Lore informed me that these were actually automatic “noise makers” that the local vineyards use to keep birds from eating the grapes. However, the sound was so minor that it quickly faded into the background and the noise makers shut off as soon as the sun was down anyway.
Also, there is a large, friendly dog and a couple of cats that live outdoors on the property, but these should not be a problem for anyone unless they are deathly afraid of pets.
If you like B&B’s, I’d heartily recommend this one.
