(My actual date of stay was July 2004, but that wasn't a choice on this form)
This lodge is only open for a few weeks each summer. Situated in a sheltered spot at the south end of Bathurst Inlet, the lodge's surroundings are of geological, biological, cultural and historical interest.
Planned outings occur each day, in the company of the charming and expert lodge staff. Also, during my visit the lodge team tried to accommodate the particular interests of guests to carry out custom excursions (within the bounds of reason and safety).
Guests of the lodge are very well cared for, and although living conditions are not soft, neither would I call them rigorous. Guests present during my visit included everything from older people with canes, and young and athletic types.
I'm not much of a log-keeper, but as I recall we saw: bears, seals, foxes, ptarmigan, ground squirrels, and caribou. The plants are too numerous to list, but fascinating (and all tiny, due to the harsh landscape). Staff include experts in botany, zoology, geology, history and anthropology.
Highly recommended.
