The lobby is the most impressive part of this property, with lots of comfortable seating overlooking the beautiful Chocolate Lake, with a fireplace, beautiful furnishings and even a doggie bed for your pooch to relax in. The on site restaurant is nice (but showing it's age) with a free hot buffet breakfast that was better than most. However, the rooms are just average. Actually the rooms away from the main hotel (off to the side) are nicer and the furnishings are of better quality. The pool leaves something to be desired as it's located in the basement, very secluded, with NO windows!
The hotel is pet friendly but only certain rooms are pet friendly. Pets are given a pet package upon checkin and the hotel mascot, Cocoa, a chocolate lab, is friendly and usually present.
We had the pleasure of dealing with a young lady on the front desk who was Employee of the Year 2011. I wish I had taken note of her name. We encountered some issues with our room upon arrival and she went above and beyond to accommodate us. I'm certain that we would have left the hotel to find another had she not been present. She was more concerned about correcting the problem and making us happy than the actual manager who was buzzing around the front desk area. I commend this young lady for going out of her way to ensure her guests were content.
We would stay here again in the future, but only if we stayed in the rooms off to the side of the main hotel. I should also add that the rooms were clean, no complaints there.
