“Loud, loud, loud”

I stayed for 2 nights at this hotel in Halifax. I got the 'petite' package because it was the cheapest one available. The location is great, right on Spring Garden and South Park. The staff is nice, and there's a decent pub downstairs. Once in my room, I realized I could hear the plumbing every time someone in a neighbouring room or upstairs took a shower. The heating system was so loud that it actually woke me up twice during the night. There was some kind of party in the neighbouring rooms as well with intermittent yelling up until 3AM. The bathroom was quite cramped, and the sink quite inadequate. The room itself was small but not too shabby and clean. I value a good night's sleep, so I doubt I'll be staying at this hotel next time I'm in Halifax.

“Historic comes with a few drawbacks...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

The good:

Great location, beautiful public areas, upscale.

The bad:

Older, dated, bad bathrooms.

It's a great place to stay downtown, across from the park, but one must realize that it's an older hotel and is a bit dated. If you can get a good rate, under $140, I'd take it.

Room Tip: Both sides of the street are busy, so the higher floors are best.

“Great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I stayed here for one night while in town for business. Clean rooms, very friendly and hospitable staff. Rooms and the hotel are a bit outdated but it's clean (most important factor for me when I travel) and provides everything you need. Friendly staff and concierge. Hotel offers later check out (1pm). Amazingly comfortable beds. Great heating system. Free wireless. Aveda products in the bathrooms. The hotel has a nice restaurant on site but there are also a number of fast food and sit down restaurants within 5 minutes walking distance. The hotel is on the corner of Spring Garden Road so very close to shopping, Starbucks, etc. The waterfront and "pub district" is less than a 15 minute walk away.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here and would stay again when I'm in town.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has a view of the Public Gardens.

“Oh la la la!!! J'aime le Lord Nelson Hotel!”

Central location. Best location downtown!

French, I came to Nova Scotia for 3 weeks away from home (Paris, FRANCE) and I felt right at home.
The old fashion look is breath taking. I cannot get over that golden mail box by the elevetor...It is just beautiful and gives an antic, feel to the whole place.
My room was very comfortable. My bed... wow! There was an Ipod docking station in my room that also served as an alarm clock! I loved it, I had my own private party in my room, I was that happy!
The business center and the Fitness room, you got to love them! The apples on display, where they for show? I ate a couple (in the Fitness room), sorry...
The hotel employees made me feel very comfortable. They were nice and I have to say it is a great team of people. They are proactive and very nice.
That is the only place to stay in Halifax. Thank you! I will definitely go back for more.

“outstanding hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We highly recommend this hotel. We missed our first night due to flight being delayed. We were upgraded to a suite which was very nice. We found all employees at this hotel very friendly and helpful, The pub inside the hotel serves very nice meals - the seafood chowder is outstanding! It also has an excellent staff. The location of the hotel is great, right opposite are the public gardens which are stunning. It is also possible to walk to Pier 21 and other tourist sites like the Citadel.

Room Tip: We had room 607and found it excellent.
