A Halifax classic. In a city with no good hotels, this one always suffices.
The Westin was a grand old railway hotel (still has a working train station attached) with lovely function space. It's bar and restaurant is always below average, make meal and drinks plans elsewhere. Halifax, for what it lacks in hotels, it makes up for in restaurants reached by foot.
Thew newer rooms are up to a Starwood standard of decent linens and beds, nice bathrooms. The old wing of the hotel can be a little touch and go. The harbour view is not worth paying any additional increment for, though an important harbour historically it is not a breathtaking vista.
The front desk staff are of the 'well seasoned' variety. they know their jobs and the town, but are a bit lazy and surly after 6pm.
Bellmen and valet service is top drawer, fast and friendly. Elevators are painfully slow when there are more than four guests in the hotel (sneak into the service door opposite and grab the service elevator).
Have stayed here on and off for the better part fo 17 years, as hotels go it is an old friend.
