“Highly Recommended”

From our arrival and greeting at valet parking to check out we had a perfect two night stay. The room (comfortable king mattress) was spacious, spotlessly clean with all necessary amenities both in room and in bath. We had a water/Dartmouth view out our window which is probably the preferred side of the building. The highlight was the in-house restaurant GIO. We had dinner reservations just after their renovations, so every detail was perfect. The meal was the BEST we've had in the Maritimes--a must-dine for foodies who, like us, appreciate presentation, price (not excessive), and unique choices excellently prepared. We hope they don't lose the momentum or attention to detail. The in-house breakfast was fairly typical (separate from the Gio restaurant) for hotel breakfast bars. Service throughout our entire stay was friendly, accommodating, and eager. We would especially recommend its central location since it's on the link of the "pedway" and avoids the need for driving/parking.

Room Tip: Ask for a water-view room. Make reservations at Gio for your first night. It'll set a preceden...

Thank you so much for your detailed review and kind remarks. We were delighted that you enjoyed your stay - and loved your advice to others to "make a reservation in Gio on the first night of your stay - it will set a precedent" !
Hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again in the very near future!

“Will certainly stay here again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

From the very friendly and professional service to the soft and luxurious bed, every aspect of our visit was above expectations. As it's so conveniently located in downtown, we had the valet park our car and didn't need it until we checked out -- walking on the street or through the extensive pedestrian tunnels and walkways was fun and easy. The room was attractive and the amenities and bathroom appeared new and shiny. We had two very nice breakfasts at the in-house Terrace restaurant, also with excellent service, and a breathtakingly great dinner at the other in-house restaurant Gio, just reopened with a new look and menu (reviewed separately). We noted but did not use the business centre, pool, and hot tub -- maybe next time. We very much look forward to our next trip to Halifax, when we'll come back to the Prince George.

Only complaint: breakfast buffet closed at 10am. We were sleeping in late and taking it easy, so later would have been better.

Room Tip: Rooms facing east overlook the waterfront, downtown, and Dartmouth.

“Good Choice in Halifax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Stayed here for three nights with my daughter who was checking out Dalhousie Univ for next year. Very good experience. Hotel is well located and has a smaller feel to it than some of the waterfront hotels like the Westin but is also large enough to offer amenities like a couple of restaurants, gym (small one), business centre, etc. Service was friendly and efficient. When I checked in they tried to up sell me for $30 to the conference floor on 6 where they said breakfast was included and rooms had nicer amenities but I was happy staying in a regular room. The room was roomy and had a new, nice bathroom. The wallpaper and furnishings were kind of bland and boring but that's just my personal taste. The main restaurant, Gio was closed for renovation but not a hindrance. The concierge recommended a nice seafood restaurant on the waterfront called McKelvies. Very good. Underground parking was convenient but a little pricey at $20 per night. WiFi was free though. Since my daughter has chosen to attend Dal, I will undoubtedly be back!

Room Tip: Would ask for a high floor.

Thank you so much for the great feedback! Delighted to learn that your daughter has chosen Dalhousie - Halifax is a great City for the university experience! Perhaps you will stay with us again when you visit. Check out the packages on our website - we often have some great pricing that includes parking and\or breakfast for an all inclusive price. Hope that The Prince George becomes your hotel of choice. Thanks again for the feedback. Penny C

“Prince George Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Good hotel, excellent central location in heart of city. Has excellent restaurant in hotel and easy walk (by street or by pedway) to other fine restaurants and venues. Good service. Only critique is that the pool (very lovely pool) is not wheelchair accessible in winter (wheelchair users must go outside to enter pool area at grade). They were very good to my little dog. Very pet friendly.

Thanks so much for your feedback. Very glad to learn that you enjoyed your stay. Our swimming pool is wheelchair accessible, as you point out, from the outside deck of the hotel. Realize that this is not perfect - especially in winter - but we would offer every assistance to make it happen!
I do hope that The Prince George will again be your hotel of choice in Halifax.

“New Years at the Prince George”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Got a good deal at the Prince George, very friendly personnel. The breakfast was superb. The room fairly dark caused by dark wooden furniture and low ceiling. Overall state of the room was good. The view was nice. And the location to the center at walking distance was good.

Room Tip: ask for ocean view and a floor higher than second.

Thank you so much for your review of The Prince George. So glad you chose us for your New Year celebrations!! We are very close to Parade Square, the New Year's Eve Concert and Fireworks - so the hotel is usually "hopping" on December 31st! Appreciate your feedback regarding the room - we are continually replacing and improving our furnishings and will be changing the mahogany in the future. Thanks again and very best wishes for 2012!
