“Perfect piece of paradise!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

My husband and I stayed here two years ago and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and came back this year for the Labor day long weekend. It exceeds everything we could want with the service, the view, the bass fishing (even though we didn't catch a keeper) and the privacy (we were in the guest house this time). The cottage and grounds are immaculate and it is so peaceful and serene we hate to leave. I am actually in the process of booking one again for a girls weekend. The staff are so friendly and helpful and yet leave you alone to enjoy yourselves but are there if you need anything. In our opinion you couldn't stay anywhere more beautiful!!! Also great that it is pet friendly. We are definitely hooked and will be back many more times. The pool and hot tub are a bonus even though we were too busy fishing to enjoy them this trip.

“Scenery is what you pay for-not the accommodations”

While the Bay of Fundy and it's incredible tides are a 10, the cabins are no more than a 2.

The 1 bedroom cabin rate is definitely not worth what they charge. I speak from experience traveling throughout the eastern provinces as well as the rest of Canada and the US, so I am fully aware of the the continents various demographics and the associated standards/prices. The cabins are very closely situated so be prepared to hear your neighbors barking dogs, loud conversations both inside their cabins and outside around their rented outdoor fire pits until the wee hours. Unless you want to get up in the middle of the night, since there are no telephones or lines to the office, and walk to the office which is unmanned at night, close all your windows and swelter instead - no air conditioning units. The only ceiling fan was covered in an inch of dust and I dared not to turn it on.
The cabin was supposed to be fully functional. It was not. Coffee machine ($10 at walmart) but no filters. Furniture was cheap and outdated and mismatched. Flooring, fixtures and lighting were same. The lighting was so dim at nite particularly in the bathroom and perhaps even questionable as per building codes. No bathtub - only very narrow shower stall with a small nozelled shower head. Two lumpy pillows allowed per 1 bdrm. cabin. Two bath towels per one bedroom cabin only with no linen service. Signage throughout cabin justifying their non-existent housekeeping policies, ie, no towel service due to "saving the earth", "no housekeeping services and guests must wash own dishes upon departure in order to keep cabin rates low." If someone drops by to visit you during the day there is a $5.00 visit charge! I felt like I was being nickle and dimed to death every time I turned around. Im surprised they didnt charge me for viewing the tides.

At over $120.00 per night for all of the above,I will stay next time on the Bay of Fundy up the highway at lovely century old mansion or one of a few well serviced Inns available. Perhaps even a campground for that matter!!

Love the maritimes and love the Bay of Fundy but not the Four Seasons Retreat (???!!).

“Good but with a few problems”

My husband and I stayed at this "Retreat" for a week in August.  The location is superb - a great spot for watching the amazing Bay of Fundy tides.  The beach is great for exploring - especially when the tide is out. however the access to the beach is difficult and not easy to find.  The stairs were broken and roped off.  The cabins are VERY basic but comfortable.  If you are a medium to large sized adult male you will find the shower extremely small .If you want complete privacy you won't find it here.  The cabins are quite close to each other. We were kept "entertained" one evening by the couple next door - (on their honeymoon perhaps?)The staff we met were friendly and efficient.   The cabins was very clean when we arrived.

“Very relaxing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2009

We rented a 1 bedroom cottage and were very impressed. It was a clean, quiet and we ll laid out cottage. The cabin was right on the ocean and you can sit and watch the extreme tides go in and out. We let them know when we would be arriving and they had the woodstove going and the cabin was very cozy. I read about some complaints of musty smells but I can't imagine it is truew to tday. The cabin was immaculate, modern and veey clean.

We were there in April and the weather was very good. I can see how the summer would be very nice as well with the pool and hot tub working.

If you are looking for a nice weekend away anytime of year this is the place for you.

“Quiet, Beautiful, Tranquil - and a wood stove, too”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2008

We just spent a most relaxing weekend at the Four Seasons Retreat on Cobequid Bay. From the minute we arrived stress just melted off thanks to the quiet and beautiful surroundings. We sat by our woodstove for two nights enjoying good books, the view of the water and absolute silence. At 10pm we could hear small waves crashing against the rocks and see the moonlight refelecting off the water. We saw both high (the water was right up to the rocks) and low tide (large, easily walkable mud flats). At 8am, sunrise glistened on the water.

I've never been greeted by friendlier staff, eager to help us in any way and tell us all about the resort - always a wave and a hello as you pass by on a walk. I've had much worse service at five-star resorts.

The cabins themselves have everything you need, from cooking and dishes to a full fridge, to bottle openers and wood for the stove. Yes the decor is a little dated, but it is also cute, clean and you don't have to tiptoe around, afraid of damaging something - you can just relax. In summer there is also a BBQ, pool and hotub, all of which look like they'd be fun. We found the bed to be perfect, not hard like a previous review had mentioned. And yes, you are in the wilderness so you might see an occasional bug or mouse that has found a way into your cabin (we saw exactly one of each in a 48 hour stay). But I have pretty high standards of clenliness, and this resort exceeded my expectations in that area.

Overall, this resort is a wonderful place to spend a quiet weekend away from the chaos of city life. I like that it is affordable, friendly and that the grounds are so well maintained. We will be going back, without hesitation.

  • Liked — The setting, the beauty, the silence and seeing the natural wonder of the Bay
  • Disliked — Stairs down to the beach seem a little dangerous.
