The Super 8 is a short drive from the airport but farther from downtown than some other hotels. Though nothing is very far away in Yellowknife.
The rooms are more than adequate, well maintained and clean; despite outside temperatures between -30°C and -40°C during our stay the rooms were warm and comfortable.
We were in Yellowknife to see the northern lights so were coming and going at all hours of the day and night and must have met just about all of the reception staff who were all helpful and friendly.
The buffet breakfast has plenty of choice and will set you up for the day, there is also a Tim Horton’s just outside the front door and a Wal-Mart across the parking lot.
The hotel has a small car park, about half of the spaces have power hook ups, but there is more parking outside the Wal-Mart.
If you hire a car during the winter keep an eye on the dashboard warning lights, we had 3 cars in 5 days due to different engine failures, this is not uncommon at very low temperatures and Hertz were very apologetic and quickly swapped the cars for us.
The ice road is a must do if you are there in the winter, either in your own car or on a guided tour.
