This hotel is just OKAY: the rates are reasonable, the rooms are clean and comfortable. BUT it seems like no-one really enjoys working at this hotel. There are not many smiles, no laughter, no conversing with the guests. The overall atmosphere is "dead" .. like people are just going through the motions .. busy doing their jobs .. but forgetting that they are in the hospitality industry and the guest is important.
Coming to Yellowknife to do business, maybe this is not important to you .. maybe you just want a place to stay that is reasonably priced, clean and comfortable. Personally, I feel the atmosphere of the place I stay is very important.
This hotel reservation was made for me by my company .. if I had a choice of where to stay, I wouldn't stay here. If I ran this Super 8, I would do something to boost my staff's morale. This is what will get customers to return again and again.

Front Desk people were rude including the manager. We stayed for 5 days and 2 days they didn't give us enough towels or make our beds. The fitness room had two treadmills and an elliptical and both treadmills didn't work.

If I went to Yellowknife again I would never stay at the Super 8.

Woke up scratching in the middle of the night. I had checked for bedbugs and saw no signs, and I suppose it could have been mosquitos but some kind of flea seems most likely.

Hotel is shabby in public areas and a way out of town, adjacent Tim Horton's the only good point. Spend the extra $$ and stay at the Discovery or Explorer, but book well in advance otherwise you may be forced to take what you can get. Like me ;-(

I recently spent 6 nights at the Super 8 in Yellowknife, NWT. I found the service to be genuinely friendly and helpful. My room was clean and modern. I especially liked having a fridge(there was a coffee maker as well, but I don't drink coffee). The Breakfast in the morning was excellent. I especially liked the fresh fruit and make your own waffle(with real batter and a waffle maker). It was close to the Airport, but a little far from downtown Yellowknife. As someone said though, nothing in Yellowknife is that far though. It is a 5 minute drive or a short walk to downtown. If I come back to Yellowknife in the future, which I hope I will, I will certainly be staying at the Super 8.
