“Families & patients at ST. Clairs Hospital go here!!!”

My father had to travel to St. John's everyday for 7 weeks for radiation treatment. We lived more than an hour away so we stayed at this hotel most weeks from monday to friday. They were so compassionate, and every need of ours was taken care of above and beyond. The staff are heros. They take such wonderful care of their customers, even driving us to the grocery store to pick up supplies. There's a kitchenette in the rooms that was very handy for making and storing food so we didn't have to eat out all the time. The breakfast was free everyday. It was just a comfortable place to be during the difficult time we were facing. Everything turned out great for my dad, he's healthy and happy!!

“Far from home, but near a pharmacy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

Stayed for 2 nights, September 30-October 2. Reserved one room through Priceline at the nightly rate of $86 USD. I was booking a two-star hotel, so I was not surprised that we got the Extended Stay Deluxe with our bid.

Our room (202) was on the same floor as the front desk, where the free Internet terminal is located. The room had a queen bed, television, dining table, microwave, stove top with two burners, refrigerator, plates, utensils, pots and pans. Next to the television was a large air conditioning unit with a hose that plugged into the wall. The room was quite spacious with a La-Z-Boy recliner located across from the bed.

During our stay, we soon realized that there were a lack of amenities. Housekeeping was minimal, and toiletries included only one bottle of shampoo and two bars of soap. There were no pens or stationery in the room, so we took notes on city maps. During the night, we were awoken by squeaky beds through the thin walls and ceiling. Also, there were a number of hotel staff and long-term residents smoking outside in front of the hotel.

A complimentary breakfast is included at the hotel in the breakfast room across from the front desk. Among the offerings were bread, bagels, cereal, juice and coffee. It was a basic breakfast, but the room was well stocked and clean.

It is a short 20-minute walk from the hotel to downtown, but be advised that it is an uphill northbound climb to return to the hotel. There are few shops nearby, but a Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacy is located just a block away (250 Lemarchant). Also close by is Bacalao Nouvelle Newfoundland Cuisine (65 Lemarchant), which is a fine dining restaurant that uses local food products. We had a fine meal there and were treated superbly.

As for the Extended Stay Deluxe, it was worth the money we paid to stay there. However, it is not very memorable and for a trip to St. John's, it is probably worth the money to stay at a nicer establishment with a better location.

“Home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

We stayed 3 nights and it was well worth it. The free coffee and breakfast was a bonus and it was nice to cook our own meals later on. It was close to the down town. Definately get a good workout going up and down the streets.

Room Tip: Rooms on main level are a bit noisy with people coming and going. Especially near the elevator.

“I would stay there again.”

We only stayed at this hotel one night, however, I would certainly recommended this for longer visits. We checked in late afternoon after making a phone call to check availability.
We were fortunate to get one of the last rooms available. Our room was located in the basement. This room was very spacious, with one bed, large lazy boy chair, table for two to dine, and complete with kitchenette. There was parking available at the hotel . We have stayed downtown St. John's before in hotels with no parking available, if you are lucky enough to find a parking lot to park in you pay extra for parking and if you park on the street you have meter parking. A light breakfast is available at Extended Stay. Computer with internet available in main lobby. We paid approximately $129 for our room.
Althought we were close to laundry, fitness room this posed no noise problems. I would certainly recommend this hotel for the extra room size, kitchen facilities, light breakfast, parking, computer use, and price.

“Fairly basic”

This place is exactly what it says on the tin. Its only a 2 star, and if anyone looked at pictures before going they wouldn't be surprised with what they got. The interior is pretty drab, they could to with adding a bit of colour into the place to cheer it up! But the bed was fine, and the little kitchenette would have been handy if we were staying more than a few nights. En suite looked fairly new and was very clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was continental which gets boring quick but a good trick was to grab a tray and bring it back to the room! Convenient location, close to downtown. Suited a purpose but I wouldn't rush back again.
